Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

I'm embarrassed!

Flat out embarrassed to say I work for State Farm and when people ask, I usually make something up. The few times I have told people I work for SF, I get an ear full about some relative that worked there for 3 months and quit, or got sc--wed over on an auto/fire claim. I've been asked by a couple of people if SF is hiring and I tell them I would not wish this place on my worse enemy! I tell them to never buy anything from SF and stay away! I'm just trying to survive, until I can take retire! Place is a certified insane asylum!

OP....this place is an embarrassment for sure. In-office this week and was waiting on a co-worker down in the lobby to go to lunch. Never seen so many freaks in my life, I can't believe this place is able to operate. I see it every time we go into the office and it still amazes me, sad.

Yes you have to spread it by word of mouth and actions. I'm amazed at how many employees that hate it here but still give State Farm their money. Call your agent and cancel your policies, call friends, family, tell people at soccer practice, church, on the golf course...where ever. Tell them to take their insurance somewhere else.

Ashamed yes. But tell everyone anyway. Yes I do. I tell them how sh---y our benefits are and how sh---y they treat the employees. I tell them how i have to request vacation a year in advance. I tell them about the micromanagement and listening to our calls and all the freaking metrics we have to meet. I tell them there is no work life balance and flex time is almost impossible to get. I tell them about all the underhanded tricks to make employees miserable to force them out without severence. I tell them how SF sold employees to avoid severences. I tell them about all the benefits that have been taken away and the new sh-t ones we got. I tell them about the unqualified management that has no clue. I tell them I would never recommed anyone work for this company.

Boomers, you have run up $37 trillion dollars in debt to pay for your lifestyle and subsidize everything you have. You now expect every other generation ahead of you to pay for it or bail you out! You have created the current system and now we have no other options. There is no place to go to anymore as most all jobs and corporations are just as bad or worse then State Farm and usually because boomers made it that way. I agree a lot of the boomers do have a good solid work ethic, but most are not willing to listen to any other idea, other than their own, or stuck in the past. Look at SF, they still think the agent is going to ride in and save the day and talking about the good ole SF! They want people in the office, don't understand technology, think we should be completely loyal to a company that would fire anyone of us in a minute, took away good benefits and won't pay a living wage to live in Dallas, Phoenix or Atlanta..... This was all done by Boomers, not us! I would leave....just no place to go that is not going to be worse!

That is the difference between the renter generation and the boomer generation.

If a boomer was unhappy, we would fix it quickly by leaving or rectifying the situation.

Renters seem unable to fix their own situation, so the suffer with it.

Let me help some of you!
You can get 6 months of FMLA protection
You can get 6 months of STD
Save up all your PTO and Life Leave, Celebration Day
Come back and do your job the best you can and they cannot performance manage you. Repeat this every year as it is based on a 12 month rolling time period!
While you are doing this go find another job and/or work another job. Double Pay!
Remember every word coming out of Execs mouth is a lie and designed to make themselves rich at your expense. They see all this as a game and you are 100% disposable. Do not feel bad about any of it because they have zero consideration for you and betting on the fact that most people are good moral people and will play by the rules of the game they set but don't follow themselves! Beat them at their own game!

Most of SF people in operations have no clue what the job does to them physically. Most people in operations suffer from substance abuse and mental disorders. They have spousal problems and debt issues. SF does not share this with you and they are all image with zero substance to support their image. So sad and very sad. Sitting in a cubicle and trying to meet their metrics goals is a one way ticket to health problems. I know. I never did have the substance abuse and family problems but it did get to my health. My MD told me my last year at SF, I am going to have a heart attack and/or stoke based on my blood test. Now that I am away from SF my blood test is all within normal range. It took me one solid year to get into normal ranges. So go ahead and be the hamster in the wheel, drinking red bull, eating nasty food and staring into that computer to make THEIR unattainable metrics. They care less about you! Take care of yourself, eat well, and get away from that CRT. If you die, they win and have to pay less. It's all about them and they could give a sh*t about you.

When I started in the early 90s I used to tell anyone that asked that I worked for a large multinational financial services company. Since they really did care, they were just asking as small talk, I never had anyone inquire beyond that and ask what company it was. My wife used to go around telling everyone we (yes, we were one of those couples that both worked for the Farm) worked for SF. It used to pi-s me off simply because I had no desire to listen to their BS complaining about rates or claims or whatever else was bothering them about insurance at that time. Today when someone asks me what I do I simply pretend I am deaf and don't acknowledge or answer the question. In a few short months I will start to answer with I am retired.

Well I would switch to cars or homes. Farms are in the decline.
