Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

This limbo we're stuck in is destroying me

I feel completely checked out at work. I know I should prep more, show up better, but I’m just not motivated. Then I end up doing poorly on calls or projects, which makes me feel worse and even more disconnected. It’s this loop of burnout and self-doubt I can’t seem to break because I've given up. I want to care again, I just don’t know how to start.

@ar I was miserable for years in an utterly dysfunctional team where it was not only difficult to achieve anything, but achievement was actively punished. Had very high attrition in the lead-up.

I was miserable for a couple of days following, and since then, have felt happier and lighter than I have in a very long time.

Turns out money can’t buy happiness.

The poor saps that remain look like a reflection of my former self - tired, withdrawn and sullen.

Just hang in there for the next cash splash. Lots of us are doing very little waiting for our turn at the trough. Just following our leaders.

For your own well being, it's time to move on to a job that gives you more satisfaction.

Totally agree I feel 100% the same. And to the negative commenter wtf are you even talking about!? OP is speaking about a real psychological phenomenon that happens with people when they are gaslit for over a year. And people who really do care about their work and how they show up in life, do feel this way. IDK what to think about some of the people on this site. The trash needs to go to, but there’s also some really good people that are suffering right now.

Get used to it pal. If you stay you will be stuck in that mentality for a while. Best to accept it for what it is and not be harsh on yourself.
