Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Have you landed on your feet?

For those who left this place through forced exits, I often read here that people land somewhere with better pay. I don't know how true that is in this current economy. I landed somewhere, but one income won't suffice. So I'm working and I am in what is normally called "unskilled labor" where you need 2 jobs to breathe a little. I'm working that one job(more miserable with a third of the paycheck), so be nice and say hi when you see me at your Target near you at my second job.

So for those who landed safely at a better place, how the heck did you do it? That coaching program they provided was in so many words, and as politely as I can, extremely underwhelming. Good luck out there everyone.

I voluntarily left months ago to what was at the time a better company. However it ended up being a poor choice to leave Cigna as the new company contracts started to dry up due to recent administration changes. I was laid off. It definitely lit a fire under me and forced me to apply for jobs out of my confort zone. Somehow, I landed a even better job, but it wasn't easy and extremely stressful. I wouldn't want to do it again. I consider myself extremely lucky and blessed considering how bad the job market is now.

So when people are saying it took 7 or 8 months that’s how long severance lasted. So how long did you actually look? Seems like people are taking of several months before they actually look.

Land something new in this economy? That's ambitious.

New data shows 24% of people laid off between ages 50-65 can't find another job.

Those who do? Average 11% pay cut.

Men take 15% hits, women 7%.

The wait is worse: 55-64 year olds spend 26 weeks unemployed vs 19 weeks for younger workers.

Many settle for jobs without benefits, crushing retirement plans.

Half of older workers expect gradual retirement transitions.

Reality? 70% get the full stop treatment.

Save young or work forever. There's no middle ground. Thanks Cigna.

Took me 7 months, landed a great job and about $45k more a year— but the work load and pressure is higher.

I ended up making more money (mid 2024) but far more importantly I was able to walk into a new job debt free thanks to the severance package. Just keep looking. It took me 8 months to land a great job.

Not landing. Early retirement. Pings on LinkedIn are non-existent.

Just keep applying.
Something will give eventually.
