And now the job market is a horror show. Worm bodies just keep piling up. Hundreds of applicants for every decent opening. I’d even take a pay cut, but the pickings are slim. I can’t stand feeling so cornered and stuck.

We’ll, if you’re a few months from retirement or such, I can see the desire to get laid off. Other than that, unless you’ve got a resume with flashing neon light (figuratively) and have be working you connections, face to face, aggressively; it’s going to be a hard road.
Yup...that's why I always laugh when I read a post by someone "hoping to get laid off". The job market absolutely stinks right now. Just keep your head down, do your job and take advantage of looking for a job while you have a job. Also take any free training that is offered to you to pad your resume. Things will pick up... so turn the negatives into positives by working on yourself while still cashing that check! And most importantly be kind to those we work with because a lot of us are in that same situation.
