Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

They need to stop taking it out on us

I know that most of middle management is not happy working here either, any more than the rest of us are with the recent (and not so recent) changes. Difference is, they get to take it out on us. The whole place now runs on “sh-t rolls downhill” while the big shots pretend not to notice.

This is definitely true, but is also applies to nearly every other Fortune 500 company. Is there any big corporation where the fe--s doesn't seek the bottom?

@bf Haha!! You nailed it "forward someone else's work brigade." We have teams that would be non-existent if it weren't for the "forward someone else's work brigade!" Nike can't afford fake busy work anymore!

This is actually a great analogy. Lack of competent leaders means problems aren’t addressed at the top, and just snowball downhill as the problems grow bigger and bigger until it reaches the actual doers. The people within the lowest rungs of the company get shafted, while upper management gets to sit pretty and look the other way, claiming their arms are tied. Remind me, why does upper management get paid so much money?

They’re just really good individual contributors…….No leadership skills or qualities in the least bit

Middle managers are much of the problem. They emulate Senior Directors and VPs because they are "leaders" but leaders need expertise to be effective. The expertise should just be wider than those they manage. Nike promoted rapidly people who are in over their heads and it is hurting itself the longer it takes to flatten and get rid of the forward someone else's work brigade.
