Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

How to be part of a layoff?

Any suggestions on how one can volunteer or be more likely to receive a package?

@e1 Recent retiree here after 45+ years. I volunteered for lay off a couple of times last year when the layoffs were ramping up in the area I worked in. Was hoping to save the job of someone else. Was told "it doesn't work that way". Then, in April, day one of the new CEO's reign, the whole division at the location I worked at was given notice for closure at year's end. Corporate America is not kind to the common folk :-(

"Gave notice as soon as I accepted another offer." - this is the way. You are in control of your own life...waiting around just hoping to get a package is sad and weak.

But that's not in our culture here. Our culture is that of loyalty of time (in decades not years) dedicated decades to this bank while letting our skills decay. Such employees are proud of their decades long loyalty at the bank openly stating they must be SO good to have survived so long while internally recognizing the truth that they have let their skills rot to the point of being unemployable. Can you imagine not having interviewed for 10 / 20 / 30+ years? I would be latching on too if I had foolishly stayed that long.

Working for decades at a single company is not a badge of honor people. It is a recipe to end up with less money.

Just ask…. Don’t worry, plenty of layoffs are coming soon.

@e1 I volunteered several times over the course of a few months, my direct manager wasn't interested. Not a great manager BTW. I'm close to retirement, but more importantly it was a terrible fit with management. I wasn't a brown noser either, so career advancement was null. Pretty miserable working there. Gave notice as soon as I accepted another offer.

It is a serious question. Been at bank almost 2 decades. Has anyone just asked?
