Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Hide the ball (Altera)

✳️ Intel acquired Altera in 2015 for $16.7 Billion
✳️ Not too many years later the head of the business unit leaves for AMD Server division
✳️ Intel no longer reports Altera business, it gets buried under DCAI results. Why?
✳️ Server + Altera should be highly profitable. Instead Q3 shows break even barely
✳️ Wouldn't it be nice if investors could actually see what happened to their $16.7 Billion?
✳️ One can only imagine the staggering losses in graphics and AI also buried in DCAI

"At least Intel reported PSG separately for a few years. AMD immediately stuck Xilinx in its data center and embedded group."

When AMD shuffled their business line reporting, embedded became its own group because it's basically Xilinx. We bought Altera, and it didn't do sh-t under Intel while Xilinx took off. The Intel Touch (tm)

"AMD's growth in data center would have been closer to flat without Xilinx. Still better than Intel, but not awe inspiring."

LMAO! DCAI so punch drunk now that it doesn't even know who it's in the ring with.

The FPGA business is very strong these days. See Lattice Semiconductor's recent results.

AMD's growth in data center would have been closer to flat without Xilinx. Still better than Intel, but not awe inspiring.

Yes it's so successful you can't even see any mention of it in Q3 earnings slides strategy or results sections. Very impressive.

Intel acquired Nervana, Movidius, and Habana to its AI portfolio, including its internal grown CPU and GPU AI acceleration. Sadly none of them is able to take AI market share from Nvidia GPU. Intel AI FUBAR is the poster child showing why our R&D cost is higher that TSMC, NVidia, and Qualcomm combined. Does DCAI chief SR know how to fix it? She is probably clueless.
