Rumours that 150 are to be let go from STST - targeting long term sick and people who work across all shifts on days due to health issues . Machines powered down too on a daily basis

Expectation is that 8 to 10 will come from STST R+D.
Seagate Springtown got away lightly with such a low number to be rif'd.Some other plant must be getting hit pretty hard.
28 from STST official.
Voluntary first.
“ How does management know which employee would like to volunteer?”
They ask them, announce rif then ask who would take it.
"They usually offer voluntary first"-- How does this work? How does management know which employee would like to volunteer?
150 would be just over 10% so unlikely given what Nygaard said.
More like 30. They usually offer voluntary first, just my opinion but they would be oversubscribed
Not one machine has been powered down in Seagate Springtown.Thats simply not true. Why make up those lies?
That's not true.Thirty five employees will be made redundant. Common consensus is that they will get those numbers from voluntary redundancies. Some employees take time off sick due to what is classed as a disability. To get rid of people because of their disability would be classed as discrimination.
For the massive drop in volumes, does seagate need 2 wafer locations?
STST -> Seagate Technology Spring Town (Derry, Northern Ireland)
Rebound next year? That's what Blockbuster Video said just before entering bankruptcy.
What is STST
It's amazing the rumours that spread to fill the vacuum due to the complete lack of communication.
Nygaard told managers on his visit after the Q1 results were released that STST would be nowhere near the 8% figure for a RIF.
20 - 30 people offered voluntary is most likely.
The positions cannot be backfilled for 1 year so, if a rebound is truly expected next year, they won't cut too deep at this point.
More of a biopsy than an amputation.
