The pay’s a joke, and you can work your a-s off and still never get a raise - or, god forbid, a promotion. They’d do me a favor if they just showed me the door.

There’s a moment before the layoff hits when everything feels fake.
Your calendar’s full, your tasks are real, but you already know:
you’re done.
The Slack channels go quiet.
The VP posts about “resilience.”
You did everything right.
Stayed late. Picked up extra tickets. Covered for bad management.
You missed birthdays. Skipped holidays. Worked sick.
You shipped the thing that saved the quarter.
You trained the new guy.
You carried the dead weight.
You swallowed sh-t.
All so the company could thrive.
And it did.
Revenue soared.
The stock climbed.
The CEO got a bonus larger than your lifetime earnings.
But none of that was for you.
You weren’t rewarded.
You weren’t protected.
You weren’t even seen.
Because in this system, loyalty is worthless.
Sacrifice is invisible.
And your “market rate” is just a polite way of saying:
We’ll pay you as little as we can get away with until we can pay someone else less.
You were never part of the company. You were a cost item.
And when it comes - the email, the lockout, the HR script - you realise:
You didn’t build a career.
You subsidised a yacht.
With your time. Your health. Your life.
You should’ve been a sparkie - at least the shocks are honest.
If there's one thing DXC and CSC before that has tought me. It's how to run a frugal life. You don't need it. Don't buy it. Treats, like DXC bonuses are for special occasions not a weekly occurrence.
All of which has left me sitting on a pot of money free from any need to pander to DXCs latest want. I could walk out to tomorrow. But I'm not going to without my redundancy. In the meantime DXC has no hold over me. If it doesn't like what I do or how I do it Just send me that paperwork.
Staying at DXC = Poor mental health, skills and pay = horrible way to live.
I figured a way to accept this before I got WFR.
I focussed on "extreme saving" e.g. Not spending, getting rid of all debt and eventually putting 25% into my pension every month.
The effect of this? The WFR payout lasts a lot longer if you don't want to work.
Saving during those last 8 years or so was about preparing for that WFR moment .
BUT... you could also say 8 years is a long time to live on a poor salary.

Why wouldn't we. Staff are either fly-by-night they stay a year before they are useful they have moved on. Or they have been with DXC forever. Which DXC thinks is a reason not to pay them properly. These people used to run the place. They know at past 55 getting another job in the UK is tough or just something they don't want to do. So wait out redundancy or take it by putting themselves on self garden leave. These people aren't lazy. They are just fed up of their long service loyalty being taken advantage of. The company isn't interested in growth. So why should we care....
DXC UK is a joke. But getting paid for doing sweet fa waiting for VR is hilarious!!
Every week I swap my sanity for a few more quid. Until people start resigning in their masses our leadership will continue to think they are doing a good job.
Well…never leave a job without another offer in hand (unless you have a lot of savings or are close to retirement…)…it is very scary out there because not easy to get another job. Just my two very serious cents.
