Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Remotes getting left out isn’t exactly a smart move

Half my team is remote because we’re outside commuting distance. There is definitely now an inner circle in our team of those who are all in the same office as our manager, but what do you expect when there is nothing in terms of promotion or new opportunity within the company for remotes? Remotes out in less effort because there’s no hope of getting anything in return, we do enough to keep our jobs and drive value, but going above and beyond is a job for those in office.

OP: @ax+1jz35v6ny

What’s the point of having a willing workforce if they’re totally unmotivated? Keeping us remotes sidelined makes no sense. Tons of us are stuck in this spot, and honestly, it’s just flat-out unreasonable and d-mb no matter how you slice it.

Remotes are just as sc--wed by Dell as the rest of us. Don't assume that burning time and gas going to the office has any long-term benefits.

They want to get rid of remotes but remoters are clearly bringing in more revenue as the ones remaining are likely more responsible and can actually work well at home.

Yeah, I don't think some folks realize how many employees were left stranded without an office after all the pandemic office closures that were made permanent. Would you really uproot your family, at your own cost, to move to a city you aren't familiar with...to do the exact same job at the same pay as you were before, in a climate where people are being laid off on a seemingly weekly basis?

Option!? They closed our office during covid and didn't reopen it. Next closest office is 8 hours away, and if we want to move there we have to pay for it ourselves. What option are you talking about?

@af Have to agree with you - they knew the deal when they were given the option.

@OP You knew that was the deal when you decided to remain remote. They made it very clear that there would be no new positions or promotions, unless you came back into an ofice then. No whining now! You got what you wanted - to work remote. NOw you're stuck with it, or they can just get rid o you.
