Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Feeling like I’m worth nothing

I’ve been left standing and waiting for the PDC results.

My boss has already been promoted to be a higher manager and hasn’t said a word to me. And the new manager hasn’t communicated anything to me. My new team has already had kick off meetings and I’ve been left in the dark. I don’t know who is taking over my responsibilities since I’m no longer wanted by Chevron. I feel so disposable right now. I’ve got to stay and transition my responsibilities until August and I know I’ll never hear anything from management despite working my butt off the last couple of years.

What happened to Chevron? Leadership has become so greedy and selfish and probably wouldn’t even notice if one of their own was gone.

I'm feeling same as OP. The replies really helped me and I'm saving some of them.
Nice to see support and kindness towards colleagues from each other at a time when the company and management doesn't give a cr-p.

@am Its true. I am sorry to say it. Don't lie and tell us how you will share and keep us updated. Be a man or a woman and just say, yep, I know, just can't tell you. I'd have more respect for that. You do know right.....giving you the benefit of the doubt? Maybe you are just a Turkey??? I hope you really do know....If you really don't.CVX is dooomed!

When I worked for Chevron in the 80’s - 90’s the main comment during “restructuring” was that the decisions were made by the Group 1 protection society.

It may be hard to hear at this time, but it may be a blessing in disguise. I’ve been through similar layoffs and they weren’t the same company that I hired into when the layoff happened. At least in my view, it was God helping me out of a toxic situation that I probably wouldn’t have made the decision to do myself. The greedy individuals at the top that seem to have no connection or care for the people actually get the work done really need their moral compasses checked and good swift kick in the a-s.

Unfortunately, our stable genius pressydent is crashing the economy like so many knew he would. We’re in for a long, painful 3.5 years with no indication that a more reasonable and intelligent successor will follow. Bottom line, we’re hosed.

What Chevron does says nothing about your worth. The process was is cruel. Show them you are above it all and stay focused on your future. Take advantage of every resource such as outplacement services. I can attest to the fact that if you get involved with those offerings, it will give you confidence about your skills and future opportunities. You can do it!

I have been laid off from several companies over my career and I understand the stage you are at. The best thing to do is get organized for an outside job search. Create an external resume. It takes time to get a job search organized.
The process will help you realize you bring value outside Chevron. Understand finding a new job will take several months. It is estimated that it will take 1 month for every 15 to 20 thousand of salary in an average economy. We are in a slowing economy now.
You still have job do take advantage of it and get started. I know from experience you need to get out of the rut. There will be ups and downs you will get through it and get a therapist now to get help.

Welcome to the adult world of business and capitalism. Bottom line is we're all here to earn $$ for shareholders. That's all. Accept it. Realize you're just a (formerly) necessary piece of equipment to that end, and move on. All the bs we've been spoon fed about "family" and "loyalty" and all that other corporate psychobabble was simply to shut you up and placate you. Harsh? Maybe. True? Inarguably.

Don't associate your self-worth to this place. You're better then that.

@OP - there's no excuse for being treated like that. I know business has to get done, but seriously, where's the humanity? I feel for you, sincerely I do. Wishing it were a different climate than it is. Please take care and know Chevron isn't worth the damage to your mental health.
