Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

A 100 times this!

Why is it a big issue for these senior folks or HR execs to let people know ahead of time that a RIF is coming? It’s not that anyone on here know who or what department. It would be the most humane thing to do to have people prepare instead of living in constant anxiety wondering. Do they know what anxiety and stress do to people’s health? Of course not. I can’t believe we call ourselves a health care organization with these leaders.

Exactly what @af+1jypeg55e said.

True story. Never go to HR , HR isn’t there to help you, they are there to protect the best interests of the company. For people who think they are being retaliated against, you need to have impeccable documentation to prove and even then it would be a stretch. Many of us are “wronged” every single day by sh---y managers but before you sc--w yourself over by going to HR, stop and ask yourself if you really have a leg to stand on? Nobody cares and you’ll probably ruin your chances of moving to a better place in the company. If that even exists now

@bq

I also was riffed after reporting my a former boss to HR. There were multiple complaints against my boss.

Someone who interviewed for my team reported a director in a different department to HR. I was “encouraged” not to hire her. Never go to HR. They are not on your side. They will not protect you from retaliation. You will get labeled a trouble maker.

sadly you cannot believe that HR will help you - training on ethics retaliation etc is meant to check a box. I would never go to HR never. At this point I say very little, like sounds good, ok will do, no questions. I do what is expected and keep my big mouth shut. Keep your head down - and endure it until you find another job if you are looking, can retire if you can, or just can't take it anymore and quit. The worst thing you can do is have an opinion.

i worked here for 28 years with promotions during my tenure. had wonderful managers u til my last one who i went to hr to report. i mean really aren’t we pushed to say when something was wrong? well i did and one other person in my dept complained about the same person. we both got canned and we r in our 50s. they got rid of us due to retaliation. does anyone know if you can pursue legal matters after severance. all of this just seems so wrong. we need to stand together.

If they tell you it’s coming they fear you will not be as productive and, in the worst cases, maybe even destructive.

I am sick of being completely ignored, like I didn’t even speak, when I ask if there is something going on, our claims inventory is drastically less with so much business off shore. I have asked multiple layers of management and they do not even acknowledge the question, yet they claim transparency.

They want you afraid. Then they can get more work out of you or make you feel as if you have to sacrifice your family and mental health so that you can keep your job. Not everyone plays their game but they quickly realize who will and who won’t. The kicker is it doesn’t matter if you do all the extra work and put in the extra time. If they see your job as expendable or they can offshore it for cheaper (even if it means cr-ppier quality) they will do it for the $$. Also everyone from your manager to director to SVP is trying to save their own face and a&&, so if you think for one minute that they are going to stick their neck out to save your job if it means possibly losing theirs, it ain’t going to happen. They know they let good people go, even letting people go that are going to be detrimental to the department but they have $$ they have been told they have to cut, if you been there a while and you make mid/ to upper MRP, guess what, you are a target no matter how hard you work. There are fearful enough people that will take your job and do it too just to think they are “safe” because they are taking more work.
