Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

This note is to Executive Leaders at Elavance who I know read these posts

I feel A moral & ethical obligation to expressed my opinion regarding the employee satisfaction survey. Many employees me included respond positively mainly out of concern about confidentialities and potential backlash. This concern about job security radiates throughout the company and most likely contributes to the company receiving awards as the top workplace.

There is significant worry regarding the ongoing rolling layoffs that no one and senior leader ship will speak of directly to employees until their last day has come. Most employees fear losing their jobs daily which causes considerable stress and anxiety. The impact of these layoffs on our service to members raises concerns as well. While outsourcing offers cost benefits the depth of expertise and ability to handle unexpected situations appear compromised.

I just got a note from senior leader ship asking for my opinion on this survey that’s why I’m sending this note. I know senior leader ship is reading this and Ron Pendzick I wanna tell you this is my response to your note.

I do fill out the surveys honestly . Do I believe the surveys are anonymous? Not on your life. I just would rather be kicked to the curb for being honest than giving the Borg what they want. I know from personal experience that nothing is anonymous. Not the surveys or the stupid, stupid how are you feeing today emoji bs. Everyone should make their own decision as to how to handle those things. My immediate department is run by women that can’t use anything more advanced than excel. Treat us as though we are in grade school and are beyond certain that we all love them. But again, we all have to live with the consequences of our actions. Bottom line, update your resume, take advantage of training opportunities and the get the heck out because ultimately only you will look out for you.

There is no such thing as an anonymous survey. That’s why you get a “unique” code and told not to forward the link to anyone else. Or at least that’s how they always used to do it.

@d4 so true. ELT and VPs lie that the survey is anonymous! They know exactly who said what and you will pay the price for not towing corporate line. It is the biggest source of RIF candidates. Do NOT be fooled!

@da I know many employees already do the everything is great and leadership is great on surveys . It accomplishes nothing except empowering bad management. They flaunt their scores and say how great everything is and continue managing in delusion. Then we have to sit through more meetings while they pat each other on the back. I haven’t done an employee survey in years, I’m still here. You do what feels right for you but I am not going to pander.

Leadership has no interest in actual feedback. We should show no interest in offering it. The best way to respond would be for everyone to give the max score on every question and offer no comments other than "Keep up the great leadership". Let AI chew on that.

  1. Fill out the survey with negative comments - RIF'd
  2. Don't fill out the survey - you are disengaged so RIF'd
  3. Fill out the survey with positive comments - keep your job

Why is this so hard for people to understand?!?

Avoding the survey speaks louder than completing it. Avoid taking surveys. That sends stronger messages to so-called leadership.

@cm You are right. These surveys only serve the purpose of leadership saying the conducted them. I read that this new survey app tracks employees who don’t fill out a survey, which then flags you as disengaged and puts you at risk for riff. I filled it out with positive comments. I was honest in the past and was riffed. I learned my lesson. It’s true leadership doesn’t care about improvement - they care about checking a box stating they did something. None of the questions posed to us really allow for anything in-depth and generally are directed an immediate manager instead of the many levels above. So what’s the point? I just play along with their little game. My revenge is becoming less productive. With all the chaos no one really notices. I’m not putting in extra effort ever. I will ride this to my next riff so I can get paid while job hunting. The job markets su-ks right now , maybe I’ll search for a job when it picks up but I’m just going to milk this for everything it’s got.

I feel sorry for the employees that were overtly honest in the surveys. Management usually can tell who’s who when they read comments, I know last year I was spoken to in an offhanded way about mine so I chose not to do mine this year. I’m fairly new to this company, but as an older employee who’s been around the block. It’s pretty clear this company’s approach is damage control. If you ask your leader about the org and RIFs, you are accused of spreading rumors. Honestly answer a survey, they want to figure out who said it so they can rif you next to up their stats next round. Not all management here is bad. I have seen some managers that care about their employees, but I’d say the majority, including mine are self-serving and think we are stupid. That they can just squash rumors and we will just continue to naively work away. I guess what I’m trying to say is at the end of the day they don’t care, so you should take care of you first, no one else will. I’m currently interviewing for outside jobs, I have zero interest in working 2 laid off employees jobs and mine. I keep to myself and hope I can find something before the stress or the rif gets me. Wishing everyone well.

dont make comments on it - it doesnt matter - answer the "middle of the road" button - you know neither agree/disagree - no one cares what you think don't spend the effort

Jeez no wonder this company is in trouble. Are you still employed? Learn how to correctly write a sentence. Shouldn’t be hard to figure out who you are by RP if they are reading this.

Also in relation to this most of the comments I reviewed on my department were positive. But I was told we need to come up with an action plan because that’s what we have to do. This is corporate BS. Somebody in senior leadership saying we take your comments seriously. And then filtering down to managers that they must look at each comment and do something about it even if they’re positive! makes no sense man. They pressure people into taking these surveys. Knowing people are scared and paranoid. And they know they’re gonna get positive responses so they can be one of the top 10 places to work! hypocrisy and everything else in this company is just unbelievably ridiculous. Scary.

Hey I know it’s optional. But I was pressured by the leader ship in my department to make sure I fill it out. Since then results of the survey were shared with my team “ anonymously “ of course but I could look at the comments and tell exactly who said what. Then I was asked to help decide how we’re gonna handle these comments, address these issues in our department going forward. Hindsight you’re right I should not have filled it out. I feel guilty that I did.

We have a goal that we complete the survey. I am not sure how they will know who does not complete it if everyone marks their goal as complete but they do not receive responses from everyone.

@OP instead of responding to the survey inaccurately, just skip the survey! Don’t take it. It is optional after all.

I’m curious if everyone realizes these surveys and the number of people who take them is directly tied to leadership bonuses?
