Thread regarding F5 Networks Inc. layoffs

So how's that Center of excellence that F5 opened up in India just after the April, 2023 RIF...

.....largely funded by both RIFs of 2023.

Any technology advances on the order of what Bell Labs did back in the 1970s/1980s? Any published papers? Have they solved the circular reasoning issues that plague AI?

Have they finally abandoned "The Good Enough" mentality?

@OP Judging by the opinions, it seems those from the centre of "excellence" are not impressed:

@4vz “ Frankly, more need to start contacting unions.” Yes, nothing says we know how to organize better than having everyone contact different CWA subsidiaries.

I take it you have no idea how to “organize” a union.

@4vz So you’ve contacted the local CWA office and inquired about starting a union. The rest of us are standing by to hear about the first offsite meeting. Don’t post location here, HR will see it.

When should we hear about it at the office? A week? A month?

@4vb HR needs to know that people are contacting unions right now; that they are tired of getting bonuses cut because of volterra failures, or the job leveling compa bullsh-t being out of whack, or being forced to work on weekends because of mismanagement without compensation, or of sh-t product in general. Toxicity is spreading, and those that don't see it are far removed and hopefully will at some point. Frankly, more need to start contacting unions.

@4s8 You are absolutely right. HR is watching this space to decide if you’re going to organize a union or keep posting “F5 su-ks!”. As long as you keep up the latter, they don’t have to worry about the former.

F5 PR is now replying to their own comments to make it look like all these threads are created by one person. Don't be fooled by their propaganda 101 methods.

@3n1 @3n1 It only has to do well enough. There are plenty of comments here that FFIV is a complete and utter disaster. You would think from reading the comments here the company is shuttered. Well, the stock trend says it’s fine. Not great. The over exaggeration here just undermines what should be a place for well reasoned, constructive criticisms, or layoff news. Instead it’s just a bunch of ‘the sky is falling’ comments. Defend it if you will, but it is a bunch of shouting into the abyss unless it changes into more specific criticisms with possible solutions. “Prophet follows MS footsteps.” comments. The entire industry follows MS. What’s the point of posting this? Are you suggesting in the annual survey we all comment on how Copilot isn’t as useful as leadership thinks? Post that then. Come with actions or solutions, not just broad criticisms. Or, continue to waste your time.

@3n1 problem with efficiency? Use copilot and AI. Prophet follows MS footsteps.

FFIV stock price is not doing well at all relative to the NDX (Nasdaq 100 Index) which is the benchmark for the tech industry. What's your point?

@352 Was our former CFO supposed to work forever? No retirement options if you work for F5, is that your premise?

So what if it’s a failure? Is it going to get you fired if you’re still an employee? And if it does, so what. You’re really clinging on to this whole “my job is my whole life” thing way too much. Are you so hardcore unemployable you think getting fired by F5 or F5 shuts down is the end of the world for you? If you do, get professional help.

A picture is worth a thousand words. None of the ribbon cutters at the opening of F5 Innovation India Bangalore are still with the company, apart from Francois. That's how well F5 is doing with value creation in India.

I see the reason of India operation in a different ways;

  • take control of the management of the product and the company within a group of folks from india.
  • extreme nepotism
  • big bosses can travel to india, visit extended families (at company expenses)
  • do private business in india
  • showing of how they are helping for the growth indian industries
  • multidirectional gain.

@168 Excellence? what excellence? Do you see how they work? It's just the definition of what Cory Doctorow means with "enshitification". But yeah, at least they are cheap...

F5 needed to expand from being a hardware company to being a hardware, software and SaaS company. So they acquired a bunch of other companies to do it. But what if they couldn't get customers for the new product portfolio? To hedge their bet, they invested in India because Make In India gives them guaranteed customers if F5 hired Indians. No other country offers this because there are anti corruption laws that preclude a government weighing in on vendor selection for private sector companies.
Fast forward to now and the only problem is, new products and services are built to Indian market specs and are not competitive anywhere else. Pretty major problem for a tech company. F5 will slowly go the way of many other companies with bad CEOs and disappear.

@1ck gad it's true f5 is on its way to being an Indian owned corporation. Likely a part of the Made In India iniatitive started in 2014. Time to toss all of F5s published values

F5 collects subsidies and gains Indian market access by retaining employees in India. It's another one of those McKinsey scams.
