What are some of the signs at Target specifically that a person or team will be laid off?

@314 Not many do BUT if I learned anything from the past, it's to have at least 6 months of salary saved up (ideally a full year)! I recommend that to anyone if you can start putting money into a money market account; and have that as your backup in case of loss of employment (and supplement with UI).

Watch calendars for a lot of private meetings. Especially half days where there are off-sites.
If it’s your turn you will get a “status” pop up on your calendar for that morning. You’ll get a script read to you and that’s about it.

@OP for me and several of my friends there were no signs. It’s been happening very quietly and in small groups. The teams that the people are on that are being laid off are told not to reach out or to say anything to anyone. They say this is to respect those being laid off but I also think it’s to keep people quiet and in the dark. I was laid off a few months ago and worked with several who were laid off shortly before or after.

You may be in trouble in there is re-aligning of workload. Something you team used to do is now covered off site. There is a lot of optimization of job duties. All of a sudden you seem to be a lot less busy, and they no longer replace people that are leaving.

Yeah, the market is absolutely brutal. If you're on a single income, you need 12 months of savings, minimum.

Sudden resignations from Senior Directors or above. Watch for lots of private meetings on calendars. Typically everyone who gets let go doesn’t know until it actually happens. Be prepared.

Sometimes there are signs, sometimes there aren’t signs. Either way, everyone needs to be prepared with an updated resume and a LinkedIn presence. Plus putting yourself in a place where you can financially deal with a potential job loss, first making sure you have 12 months of expenses in an emergency fund. The job market is the worst it has ever been, so protect yourself first.

The sure signs someone will get laid off:

  1. They kick and scream about "I get more work done from home" when told to come to office one measly day a week
  1. They are at the bus stop in the morning and stand and chat with other parents for 30 mins after bus leaves
  1. They are in line at the local Starbucks at 10 AM waiting 30-40 mins for coffee
  1. Laundry and grocery shopping are done before the workday is.
  1. Take 30-40 mins to respond to an email
  1. A couple who is now a one car family and moved an hour from the office.

I know it sounds crazy, but oh so.many are guilty of over 4 of these. Look in the mirror folks, are you honestly being all you can be?

Target wastes millions on non productivity, the real test is the screaming bloody mu---r about going to office one day a week.

Seriously people, I know this post gets pushback but put on the shoes "If I was writing the paychecks, is my productivity with what I am paid"

New initiatives that are identified as streamlining or optimizing processes. Functions slowly being reassigned to other teams.

Getting rid of all contractors, private meetings with HR, hearing rumors from other areas, canceled projects, emails from leaders that have "resigned" , re- allocating your projects ro someone else and ultimately a private mtg with HR, your manager and yourself.
