Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Close to retirement and just waiting to be handed the goodbye note

I’ve spent my entire career in Big Oil, and here’s a piece of advice from someone who’s been around for a while: never stay in one company for too long. This used to be an industry where you could build a career based on your performance, and where specific skills and experience really mattered. That stopped being true a long time ago.

The old days weren’t perfect, but at least hard work was recognized. Nowadays, don’t expect that what you think is valuable to actually be valued.

So don’t be a hard worker, be a smart one. Save your money, invest wisely, keep sharpening your skills, and always put yourself first. Stay alert for new opportunities, because no one else will look out for you like you do.

OP so you think that people should not work hard as a solution to the problem of hiring incompetence or just you being bitter and vengeful? Either way, that will only make matters worse. "putting yourself first" has nothing to do with working hard or not. Intentionally not working hard or slacking is putting yourself last and showing that you have no self respect.

@OP "don’t be a hard worker", Chevron should terminate you immediately. However, you are correct Chevron is lenient compared to industry. You likely won't endure outside either, my friend

I am tu-d too, well if it looks the sh!t, treat like sh!t it must be .. right.
I am that guy that has 5 project managers on my back wanting “results”, piling on the “actions”, not invited to key meetings, kept in the dark but expecting to know what is going on, and deliver thè sh!t regular(ly) despite the constipation of deadlines. Thanks for the sh!t R&A, while you work your way up the chain. Then when applying for reorg jobs, nobody upside knows you, because it was actually all you doing the hard pushing. All the best for you while I float away, yes I am a floater, because if it is sink or swim, I swim.

This applies only to males. Otherwise, just exist and have a pulse and your career will be handed to you, no real work required.

Seen it happen way too many times. Promotions for “them” back to back less than 9 months time between each. Only one reason but people are too scared to call it out and say it.

It’s not just CVX. look at any company and politicians. Skill and knowledge don’t mean anything compared to self promoters and ai. It’s a brave new world.
