Does anybody even care that we all know how promotions are handed out and that it has nothing to do with merit?

@6fm Awww..poor baby. Did some woman take what you think belong to you? Surely no woman could be better than you!
There is blatant favoritism esp for DEI tick boxes. there needs to be an MD cuts so favoritism can end. The place I remember has long gone. Its a toxic mess now.
Typical MS, and HR hasn't had real leadership in well over a decade.

For the previous poster. Do not get laid off as if somehow people would magically know prior to it happening.
What I say is worry less about getting laid off and worry more about gaining skills in AI development and automation.
I was affected by March layoffs. I am at a different firm (company). Yes, I agree with you, but MS is not really that bad. I am at another firm and it's really bad. Why? Well MS is pretty laid back for the most part with some peaks there and there, but where I am at when you have a tedious work culture and favoritism all over that even if you call it out, managers threaten you with termination. I have never seen a place like that, but I am already looking for another job at the moment. I am here for the paycheck.
I know how it feels, but in all scenarios. DO NOT GET LAID OFF! Yes, you might get severance, but the market is really bad now. 2008 was short term, Covid as well, but AI is here to stay.
I think it depends what division you are in. Ops has to provide a lot of back up for VP and above promos
Merit died at the hand of politics long long ago.
