Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Texas WARN notice update

If the WARN act requires businesses to provide notice 60 days in advance of plant closures or mass layoffs, why haven’t we seen one for Houston. With the official announcements coming out today and Chevron mentioning July 14th likely being the last date of employment, why isn’t there a WARN notice being sent out?

I’m starting to wonder if we even laid off that many people after all. Seems like everyone was panicking, I’ve yet to hear of that many people left standing.

I think they technically don't have the exact layoff numbers yet, since people could reject jobs and there's still the PDC. So, they don't have to report the exact numbers yet. Once they determine the exact number of layoffs, they'll send that to the TX government.

Back in 2016 they didn’t give WARN notice, so we got an extra 3 months of pay and insurance (from April until June)

The company doesn’t have to publicize it but the state is supposed to publish the info they receive on their lame little excel file on the site. Thats when the media picks it up. If state received info and isn’t publishing as a favor that’s another issue.

Those of us in this round did receive an email from Chevron that met the WARN notice requirements. Last day on payroll for most I'd July 17th.

I heard from another person on this website that the state of Texas does not require the public announcement of the WARN. So the federal law was met by providing the employees notification when they were told to apply for positions during the in scope announcement. So any public announcement of a WARN is only performed as a courtesy to residents of the state of Texas.
Chevron PGPA controlling the narrative as the politician's like to say.

"The WARN Act requires notice to employees, their representatives, and government entities, not necessarily a broad public announcement in the traditional sense of a newspaper or media publication."
