I will no longer be with Chevron, should I sell my Chevron stock or do you think it will increase in value after all the cuts? Not really a stock person, need help.

The best advice on this thread is to not come to this site for investment advice. Also talk to more than one person in real life whom you can trust. You will find different opinions. Weigh it all out then decide.

OP The energy sector has underperformed the other sectors for the past 10+ years. Sell your Chevron stock and buy low cost ETF in the S&P 500 and other sectors. You may need assistance so look for a fiduciary that will look out for your best interests.

I'm assuming that you have a low basis in your CVX shares acquired over many years.

If you are so inclined, these low basis shares are great for charitable donations (you deduct FMV of the shares on your tax return and don't pay tax on the appreciated gain)

CVX didn't "let" you do anything. After Enron it became law that companyies couldn't prevent you from selling your shares when vested.

Sell. After the Enron debacle Chevron let us sell stock that was given in the 401K and I dumped it and bought the S&P 500. Had too much invested in Chevron already with career, etc. CVX underperforms the S&P 500.

Just stay out of energy stocks generally speaking. They go nowhere. Just a dividend. Stick with SPY or quality tech for the long run.

What else would you do with the proceeds from sale? Buy a house? Sounds good. Stick it under the mattress? Bad. CVX seen as most likely to acquire Hess which could elevate the price although last 3 years it's been lagging the industry.

Layoffs generally look good to shareholders but they Hess deal is what will really drive the price , second to that will be a the challenges getting the million barrel per day plateau in Permian

Follow Warren Buffet’s advice and buy low fee index funds, dollar cost average out of CVX or you are one DW Horizon or failed Hess acquisition away from losing your shirt.
