Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Any design departments being cut?

I know that Home has had reductions late last year but any other departments? Apparel, Hardlines, or E&B?

@k53 Ouch! Was waiting to see if anyone was going to actually name people; and voila! Let's see how long this stays up. LOL

@k53 agreed with all of this.

Additionally, Bill Foudy and Sarah McMullin need to go!

@hra I've noticed groups being cut in tech since spring. It's very hush hush and you only hear it through someone else.

Bumping this up to see if anyone has noticed any cuts or people being disappeared; specifically Design/Tech? Any Design Depts. working with less people and having more dumped on you?

@OP yes, there have been several layoffs both at HQ in Minneapolis and overseas. People who work on A&A, Inclusive Design, CEO, etc. They are continually doing it but only doing it in small groups of people so it stays under the radar… I was laid off a few months ago. They are laying off a lot of very talented and loyal people who have been there a very long time. It’s disheartening.

@w5 "when it's vendor design, it's exhausting to get it right". I hear you. Sometimes it's better and faster if it's done by the actual Target designers envisioning it instead of having to babysit and guide vendor designers BUT since we have a sh-t ton of skus to design in a span of a few weeks, it's almost impossible to own every item in an assortment from beginning to end.

@ms I heard some in sourcing, what did you hear was impacted in other OB functions?

@w5 I totally agree with you. But, I hate to break it to you that high level leaders do not always see it this way. They have and will likely continue to move things to be vendor owned if it will equate to savings in the short term.

@vw Not true for apparel. Teams of designers are sketching and designing entire assortments cycle after cycle. The vendor does not do it all. Some categories it’s about vendor design but that’s the minority at least in apparel. And honestly when it’s vendor design it’s more work to get it right. It’s exhausting.

@em Isn't that much of what "designing" for Target is about anyhow? Vendors do it all, and we curate? And with all of the micromanagement from "Leadership" and not trusting designers who are actually trained designers to design or giving them the actual time needed to innovate, why bother having designers at all? We are stylists to be honest; not designers in our current climate.

I heard through the grapevine that some designers for HeyDay got cut recently… with the excuse of “the vendor did most of the work anyways” being given
