Repetitive Rejections for Internal Positions

What's this about? A lot of the positions I've applied to, I've been fully qualified for. Hope this has nothing to do with me and just the current state of UHC. Anyone else running into this, when this never happened before?

If you are on the layoff list the best you can get is lateral or a downgrade. They are not going to promote you wake up. If you are good at your job but no connections your current manager will never release you even if you get lucky and an internal job offer.

So if u were in the Philippines that same job posting would be a 1 day hire. The company would not care what the resume looked like, all that is required for the job is a warm body that is willing to sign on. The company would also increase the amount of smooching said body by giving them a fully paid free bachelor degree and large benefit package. Not like their American counterparts who have to prove they are worthy of the job from a company who has multiple lawsuits currently for their unethical practices including causing the death of people’s love ones, billing fraud, risk adjustment upcoming fraud , Medicare fraud in general, 401 k mismanagement. Maybe your resume should read simply: when I have to I will look the other way, you can depend on me to be fully stupid and not know that I am helping you in a suspicious activity, I will deny any wrongdoing on your part to any numerous agencies including fbi, investigative depts. I will nod yes just like a bobble head when you throw fairy dust my way . I will defend your honor and not believe one thing that is said in the news because you told me it’s not true. I am sure that resume will go to the front of the line .

@mn its an interesting comment. The company has lots of resources to help write a resume. Perhaps the high volume of poor resumes is a reflection of the internal support. Perhaps the employees who are qualified, or have great resumes aren't applying. Maybe its just not worth the pay to be given loads of responsibility, but no authority. Maybe that req is written for that special person who is a ninja, has 3 degrees, 6 Microsoft certificates, has 20 years of experience at age 28, and has done this job 2 times before, and therefore, needs no training to hit the ground running.

@dc sadly, so true. I came to realize that I must have pi---d off someone in my management hierarchy, so I am barred from progressing beyond my position and current pay grade. So, I finally divorced myself emotionally from this place. I do whatever meager tasks that are assigned to me, but I am quietly preparing to disappear one day. Only a short time ago, I learned that people laughed at me. Now I can see that unknowingly I joined them in laughing at myself. That hurts the most. I am ashamed.

I was on the layoff line on the optum side of things recently, and we were told our resumes jumped to the front of the line. Since layoffs are always rampant, it might be why you're not given the time of day. Also, I noticed that the jobs I applied to that were 2,3,4 grade levels or more above my current one, my resume was rejected, even though I was FULLY qualified. They only interviewed me for lateral moves only.

The last 3 jobs I got internally were purely internal and I had no connection whatsoever to their departments. I recently had an open req and the resumes I got from recruiting were completely appalling and mediocre! People honestly need to learn how to sell themselves better, stand out in a sea of others vying for same job! Put in some actual effort and learn how to stand out, especially if you feel you are qualified! The caliber of people we were getting were completely on a level that gave no hope for humanity. It's no wonder we have the Sh--e reputation we do, seeing these were all internal candidates.

@b2 So true. The ones that gave you a thumbs down are in denial or they are a minority.

I've been here for 18 years and the only jobs I was able to move to internally were from managers that I previously worked with who knew my work. I had a 0% success rate applying to jobs with my resume internally the "normal" way.

It’s all about who you know. That’s it. Your resume and experience mean absolutely nothing.

Same thing happened to me, over and over. It's one of the reasons I left the company. Internal moves were impossible, and there was no opportunity for growth in the position I had.

Well obviously you lack the most important requirement you dont know anyone that matters and have not been identified as a member of the high potential club. I suggest you look outside the UHG universe. If you were in the club the opportunities come for you not the other way around. There is no career advancement any other way. This listing of internal opportunities is just a framework of deception every position has a person already lined up for the spot. Its all about appearance. If you dont know the group offering the job and the hiring manager big waste of time.
