People they chose to lay off make no sense

They're paying good money to push out the workers who actually know what they're doing. Short-term savings for long-term disaster. I seen this movie before - quality goes to he-l, culture suffers, the company slumps, but then the execs bail with golden parachutes. Meanwhile we're left holding the bag.

Truth. I did the work of 2.5 people but was >20 years in, and >50. There were people who made more than me in the department, but were younger.

Blame the insecure and petty managers who put the names on the riff list to begin with. It’s no surprise that they would put people on the list they know are smarter than them, or question their decisions. I know some managers don’t have a say in who gets riffed but the ones who do are making the decision based on who they don’t like. Not a very good method if you want to keep top talent. This place doesn’t care though. We all suffer because it is the blind leading the blind most days now.
