Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Their plan is working

A third of my team is gone. They left on their own, tired of waiting for this mess to resolve itself. Now the rest of us are overworked, there’s no chance they’ll backfill anything, and Chevron saved on severance. If you’re wondering why things are being done the way they are, that’s it.

“They stopped caring about safety when they made MB head of HSE.“

Well they will always care about safety from the perspective of harming the stock price.

You are spot-on, OP. This is all being done in a very deliberate manner. I am just holding on for the severance at this point. So many good & capable people gone, pushed to their limits that some didn’t even wait for the severance. It truly is shameful what MW & his minions are doing. I can only hope that some greater power will eventually hold him accountable, ‘cause it sure as he-l ain’t gonna be that useless BOD.

I took AEOI and could have easily landed a new position. Simply too close to retirement so why work another year for free when they will pay me to leave and open a spot for someone else. Two weeks pay for every year worked isn't a bad deal.

@a1 what do you mean no severance? Isn't that what EOI is?

I haven't seen anyone quit in my function but maybe you're talking about EOIs? So of the EOIs I know of, I can only attest to one of them actually being a well liked high performer. And I think it's genuinely a shame that person is leaving. Of the others that have EOIed, they're really just ok performers. Some are lower PSGs that are early enough in their career that they likely won't miss the income too much. Others are leaving due to having family strongly tied to the area they're currently in, not because they've got companies beating down their door to hire them. Again, mostly just ok performers and not people I'd feel uncomfortable replacing.

My point is, you can't really say the people leaving have so many better opportunities elsewhere especially when jobs are almost non-existent for our function. I saw 2 people AEOI that most likely would have been cut if they had actually stayed for the layoffs. Everyone's impression was they raised their hand just to get the stress over with.

Wait, seriously? People are voluntarily leaving now without redundancy? Crazy.

Their plan is also going to result in a step change reduction in OC and has already resulted in a major safety incident.

My area was sold last November and we were told there would be no more severance from Chevron. We were lied to for months that they didn’t know who was buying the McElroy but intern they did. I had 25 years with them and got nothing. Best of luck to all my friends that are still there . Not the same Chevron I hired onto 25 years ago

I’m looking around and seeing that the people leaving are not the ones you want to go! Bad for CVX. But this iteration of CVX doesn’t seem to care about the ability, experience, and knowledge to do the job unless you are the one physically turning the wrench or swinging a hammer.

Multiple from our team as well. People that always delivered and were well respected. The top 2 in our entire area. No severance just left because they knew finding new opportunities was better than hanging around with minimal opportunities even if they were placed. Huge shock to our BU. Trend will continue.

Yes, I have seen the same . The level of uncertainty and chaos created by mgmt has resulted in top talent leaving without any severance . They aren’t going to stick around for extra $ and deal with the stress and the foreseeable mess that’s coming soon . What a huge loss for the org. Cvx is never gonna be the same
