Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

CVX is heavily overstaffed

Comparatively, CVX is heavily over staffed compared to peer competition. Since the Company no longer has capabilities in exploration or to manage capital projects, they are cutting staffing to the bone.

This hits the nail on the head. For those believing that once this round is over, we'll be safe, think again. We're looking at a period of continuous layoffs with no end in sight.

You could completely gut Chevron exploration and the company wouldn't miss a heartbeat (or dividend payment). LS and her staff of clueless high-pots and post-EOI leftovers from the last time Chevron actually discovered something (what? Tiny Ballymore - a decade ago?) wouldn't be missed at all.

Bullsh-t. Consulting companies like McKenzie and Boston consultant., get paid for the amount of money that is saved via layoffs. They get a percentage take, so it incentivize them to come in and tell companies that they are overstaffed.

It depends what function and group obviously. Some teams are heavily overworked and understaffed. Other groups have time to sit and have coffee and catch up with old friends on the company’s time and dime

Shell employee here, never worked at CVX. All I can say is Shell DW USA is way over staffed. I know people who left Shell and went to BP and they said there were even more people per activity at BP. As an outsider looking it, it’s hard to believe your staff levels could be much worse than ours.

@a6 100% agree. No supporting to operations, CTC just talks but doesn’t do any work, and have you noticed how many leaders we have with a only 1-2 direct reports.

One over looked issue is because we are well compensated, there is no incentive to challenge and improve our way of doing business. Look at the ABU, no one wants to make the real changes that can be done hence it remains top heavy. This reorg is window dressing and everyone knows it.

The problem isn’t if Chevron is over or understaffed. I don’t trust the metric people try to throw around, there’s just too much difference between the companies.

What is a problem is that the groups doing work never have enough actual technical staff assign to do the actual work. We gut that to the minimum. But never seem to have the same rigor with central groups.

So I don’t know if there are too many people, but there are certainly plenty of people not working on the right things.

Who the fu-k said that we are safe once this round over? We’ve gone through this every 5 years. It’s oil and gas, it’s the nature of the beast. Just deal with it.
