Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Bottom 5%

Managers were asked to prepare a list of their bottom 5% employees. The next step is probably Legal choosing who can be fired with minimal risk. With some luck we’ll get this nice piece of coal right in time for Christmas.

Joe Tucci should have never sold off EMC to the Dell overlord for a golden parachute and no one complained.

I too have turned to medicinal help with working at Dell. I've been here to long 25 yrs plus. I keep waiting for a chance to do a voluntary layoff but the last time that was offered the response was so great. It feels like I've spent 40 yrs here, definitely the best years of my life. Asking my boss tomorrow about layoffs and getting on whatever list I need to be on.

I started taking anxiety meds to handle the panic attacks when I started at Dell EMC in July of this year. Learning how to be an FSE...feels like being thrown to the wolves and one mistake away from looking for other work - I'm not trained (not yet a competency rating 3), yet they are doing work arounds on the rating system to get me to work on equipment that I don't know what the he-l I'm doing.

Stack Ranking is a very US way of clearing out unwanted salaries. I believe in Europe its much more difficult to introduce this type of rank system for employees - impossible in Germany for example.
However , that isnt to say that the worst 5% of performers are not let go in EMEA, they just do not call it Stack Ranking!

Dumping the bottom 5% gives the company room to hire in new talent during the good times.

During the bad times they are trying to save money. Typically the bottom 5% are not the higher earners.

It could have been anyone, including HR or someone sitting on their bed who weighs 400 pounds.

Was the post a real or contrived entry? With misspelled and incorrect wording?
“ These cuts are to help the those that are left.
Please trust that this is not being done to advance careers and bonus
It’s to help make Dell a successful player is a very competitive field

Thank your management for what they have done and will do in the future
They are looking, out for you. Making a better business. Making you better
Talk to your manager about your concerns, they are there to help you understand the changes. Your not just a number”

The people I know that were given notice this week are not bottom 5% people. They were folks who gave 110% everyday, with a lot of experience and higher salaries.
Ha- were they happy or just pretending to be part of the plantation

No not whole story. Layoffs this week were all over board in CS. Some very seasoned experienced ppl let go probably due to wage and age.

Fake news.

Management already has your rating based on previous reviews.

Why make this up?

If the company really cared, they'd start by letting go the bottom 5% of management starting at the ELT

Maybe the company should have remained private so that people could still earn a paycheck instead of going back to publicly trading and being scrutinized. Especially since when they first became a private companyMSD said he was so glad not to have to listen to the circus clowns.

https://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/03/business/dells-life-after-wall-street.html

“ Dell Technologies (NYSE:DELL) was set to start the week on a ho-hum note after Jefferies analyst Kyle McNealy gave a ho-hum assessment of the computer tech company with a new stock rating of hold.”
