Thread regarding UPS layoffs

20K Layoffs by 2028

UPS is currently undergoing a significant modernization effort that includes plans to close approximately 200 facilities across the United States by 2028 and eliminate up to 20,000 jobs by the end of 2025. These measures are part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and improve efficiency in a rapidly changing logistics environment.

However, in a separate development not directly tied to these corporate restructuring plans, three UPS Stores in Pennsylvania are set to close in the coming weeks. These stores are located at 62 Dallas Shopping Center in Dallas, 1330 Main Street in Di-kson City, and 1114 Texas Palmyra Highway in Honesdale.

A UPS spokesperson clarified that these particular closures are unrelated to the larger operational overhaul. Instead, the decision stems from individual circumstances involving the stores' franchisee, Dave McQueen. McQueen stated that he was unable to sell the stores and therefore decided to close them. Additionally, a UPS Store spokesperson noted that the closures coincide with the expiration of the franchise agreements, and the franchisee has chosen not to renew them.

While UPS continues to focus on large-scale restructuring and workforce reduction at the national level, these store closures in Pennsylvania highlight the challenges faced by individual franchise operators navigating their own business decisions.

@cp Baloney. UPS is chopping up their own business. Intentionally losing customers and lying to employees.

UPS upper management keeps laying off, offering buyouts to young management non operations employees. I am not sure why they wouldn't offer buyouts to their older operations management employees, first. Operations employees very seldom get a day off, the are always working the day before a holiday and after. Most non operations employees usually have 2 days off. UPS could eliminate some of these operations high salaries and lots of vacation time by offering buyouts to senior operations employees. UPS is hoping these older operations employees either go ahead and retire or die first. I can't believe that know upper management employee is standing up for their most valuable older operations management employees.
