Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

You can't reason with some people

My retired uncle still thinks Chevron walks on water. Try explaining today’s reality and I get called ungrateful at best, or hit with a few colorful words at worst. Some folks just can’t accept how much workplaces change after they’re gone. I wish I worked at the Chevron he remembers, I really do. But the truth is, that company’s long gone.

Chevron WAS a great place to work up until 2016. Some of the best people and innovators, a recognized industry leader. I wish I could remember the guy in Kazakhstan in the early 90's who clinched the Tengiz deal (It wasn't Kenneth D). Getter done!

Chevron has been off the tracks for years.

Chevron has not changed and remains a well run and successful company. It's the employees they have recruited over the last 10 years and the schools they prioritized that has eroded the culture and performance. Bunch of whiners and entitled babies. Maybe it was a good decision for chevron to move to Texas for several reasons but not such a good idea to focus on recruiting from there.

OP Does your Uncle get a big pension from CVX? Dont' waste your time with discussing CVX with your aged uncle - find what works for you and move on- the older generation doesn't understand today

Chevron is a great place to work. The OP needs to mature and experience what it's like at other companies. This website is mostly whining and complaining. If you don't like CVX, go to another company or start your own.

Honestly, I agree with your uncle. People who have been at Chevron for their only real job and still complain are ungrateful. As someone that came from outside of Chevron, even with all the turmoil going on right now, it's still a great place to work with great pay and benefits.

Down vote bots are coming baby. Chevron has developed and deployed AI down vote bots (AIDVoBots). About the only working AI solution the company has delivered

You need to go talk to a non judgmental friend or therapist and unload this anxiety and anger. Then focus on accepting the current situation for what it is…like we can’t change the rules or the field in sports , but we can do our best in between the lines. Sometimes those environmental things are too terrible to accept, and then you should remove yourself from the situation.

Why are you trying to explain to him how Chevron has changed? Why not focus on things that matter. Chevron is just a company, there are other things that are far more important and worth discussing.
