The current United States Secretary of Health and Human Services leader believes that universal healthcare is needed for all and also believes in private insurance. Sounds like the MA model we currently have. Either way universal healthcare is coming.

It will happen. current system does not work for everyone. Hey! didn't people say T would never be the president. He's on his second term. Never say never.
Will... Never... Happen... Only concepts of a health plan. Ya know.
@c0 , The big question will be the reimbursement for UH. If it's like Medicare or Medicaid, there will be massive layoffs due to hospital cutbacks and closures. For the facilities remaining, what will they have for staff and service lines? Any insurance will be worthless.
@c3 exactly! Then the few health insurance companies left standing will be je-ks like UHC or EH. We all know how morally bankrupt they are. We would get denied on all procedures. And now you would have no choice because these services would be our only option.
You would see your paycheck drop by 40% to account for increased taxes. Then you’ll wait months to get see a doctor. Everybody thinks universal healthcare is going to save us. It will just be a different set of headaches. And I don’t think it will improve anyone’s health.
@bq, Many incorrectly believe that if we move to universal healthcare that we will get rid of health insurance companies. One or a few large companies will still manage the operations of such a system and not the government itself.
If the country goes to Universal Healthcare with an option to go on Universal or buy private insurance for an astronomical monthly payment, nobody will buy private health insurance. And there will be layoffs "like nobody's ever seen before, it's going to big"
It doesn’t matter. The government will just allow the work to be done offshore, just as they do with Medicare today.
What’s this have to do with Elevance layoffs?
The current secretary of HHS is not the brightest bulb in the box.

Might very well be but doesn't fix the underlying issue and that's demographics, which impacts financing. The countries with universal healthcare are having the same problem. It's problem without any good answers. Bernie's Medicare for All would make the current situation much worse.
