These days I act like my job could vanish tomorrow because it could. I keep six months of savings, stay sharp, and check job boards every month. Not because I’m dying to leave, but because I won’t get blindsided. Layoffs aren’t about performance anymore, it’s all spreadsheets and salary cuts. So yeah, I stay ready.

lol layoffs have never been about performance. That’s not why you’re still there. Who the fųck is this guy?
Job security is a joke everywhere lmfaooo whats your point OP?
Nike is no different, in fact worse. A company built on the back of most vulnerable people in society pumped up by few privileged.
This is the way at any company. You work at their will, and it could evaporate any day. Always start your day knowing its your last. After 40+ years working, my backup is set, such that I could retire today, but I will work till 65 for medicare.
This is the way.
BTW, isn't "Nike culture" supposed to be different?
It's a cold reality that the company is now just like everyone else. The opportunities that a person like EH had are long gone. No intern will reach the C-suite at this company ever again because Nike is not a meritocracy anymore, and it doesn't matter how hard you work or how loyal you've been. Like you said, employees are just a number on a spreadsheet now.
