The freshly appointed leadership in my (former) BU has been playing a very dirty game.
My team’s new appointed lead and several team members were already informed during the application period.
There are definitely shady things that may create sufficient conditions for a potential wrongful termination lawsuit.
Hence, I am curious, do you have any preferred employment attorney in Houston to recommend to the whole impacted community ?

@bt, I doubt that is reasonable grounds for anything as you need to sign an agreement not to sue(or further sue) when receiving literally any kind of a payoff, severance, settlement from a stock class action, etc. etc. etc.

That remains to be seen. What are the real reasons why they have an inclusion consultant in the selection process? Have you looked at our IT workforce? It’s probably the most diverse out there.
chevron won’t settle at this magnitude of layoffs. They will have to make an example out of anyone or get owned by everyone. They may even stage their own softball case to get precedence , which is not above the tactics these lawyers use
I wonder if we could consider the requirement not to sue in exchange for severance coercive.
The lawyers will indeed take 30% but it all depends on your case. If it is a bad one the lawyers will jump on it and the settlements will quickly go into millions. It has happened in last few layoffs. So never hurts to make a call and describe your situation.
Only possibility is if you can prove discrimination. Other than that a lawyer won’t touch it.
I won a lawsuit against a former employer many years ago and it is possible. However, from the attorney I had in Texas, an out of court settlement is usually 6 months pay. Chevron offers 2 weeks for every year of service, so if you are a 12 to 13 year employee you would get that in a standard offer. so it is a cost benefit analysis. 1) having money now, 2) the stress of fighting a case 3) the time it takes to collect information to file the claim, 4) the attorney will get 30+% of your final offer.
You will find an attorney to take on Chevron and Chevron will offer a settlement but you will probably not get anymore than you would have if you took the severance and leave.
The former employer I had laid me off after lunch and stop my salary immediately to the hour. So I hired an attorney and he won a settlement for me. I personally believed I deserved the money and I am comfortable I filed the lawsuit. I even had a new job by the time I was paid the settlement.
Yeah I know people who have gotten huge payouts from fraudulent insurance claims after storms.

Good luck finding an attorney much less one in Houston willing to take on your case against behemoth and well funded Chevron. At a minimum you’d need a large class to join you. Even then, doubtful anyone takes the case.
Technically a layoff is a form of employment termination.
With the length of time, lack of information, the laughable selection tool and job descriptions, selection reps with 30+ people….. I think someone would definitely have some grounds for a suit.
You would have to forgo your severance, but that could easily be made up from the suit and then some.
The last thing CVX needs is lawsuits and press right now. Just a thought.
@a6 you are ill informed. There are many reasons for wrongful termination. Shop it around, ask if they were successful with other major oil companies. Generally speaking the oil company find it less expensive to settle than litigate.
Give it a break. You really have no grounds to sue unless you fabricate a fraudulent story or contrived set of circumstances. You got laid off. It happens to a lot of people. You're not special as much as you believe that you are.
@OP same thing in my group however, if you sign the severance package, you will not be able to sue. There are some iron clad language in there.
