Is there anything employees can do better United?

Isn’t it fascinating that we — the employees — are just watching this unfold?

Layoffs are hitting some of Chevron’s most experienced and valuable employees. It’s all being driven by a board focused on short-term cost cuts. But here’s the kicker: Chevron is largely owned by institutions like Vanguard and BlackRock — using shares purchased by us — the employees.

We’re financing the very machine that’s cutting us loose. That’s not just ironic — it’s unacceptable.

But what if I told you there’s a way to change that?

🧠 Here's an idea that could flip the script:

Create an employee-owned trust or cooperative — a single entity where we voluntarily pool our shares (or at least our proxy voting rights). Think of it like a union, but for shareholders. This entity could:

Vote as a block in shareholder meetings.

Submit proposals directly to Chevron’s board.

Push for a seat at the table — literally, a board representative who speaks for employees, not just the executive suite or Wall Street.

Demand smarter strategies: retraining, internal redeployment, energy innovation — not mass layoffs that destroy morale and long-term capability.

Vanguard and BlackRock don’t care who holds the shares. If we organize our votes, we can wield real power.

It doesn’t take millions of dollars. It takes organization, trust, and vision.

We already fund this company with our labor. We’ve built its value. It’s time we reclaim some control over what happens to it — and to us.

If you’re interested in making something like this real, maybe it’s time we stop waiting for someone else to protect us… and build the structure ourselves.

Alright, so here’s a totally not serious plan that definitely isn’t organizing or anything… but imagine if we all just, like, quietly sc--wed over the big boss in tiny ways. Every day, each of us does one little thing that adds up—like a low-key protest, but way more hilarious.
Like what if everyone “accidentally” threw away one dry erase marker a day? Like “oh no, did I just drop it in the trash instead of putting it back? My bad.” Suddenly the company’s spending $1,000 a month on new markers. Corporate’s gonna be like, “Who’s eating these things?”

Or everyone turns the thermostat up one degree on their floor every morning. One degree doesn’t seem like much, but by the end of the week it’s basically a sauna in there.

And if you’re feeling extra rebellious… one person a day clogs a toilet. Not like really bad, just enough to inconvenience the janitors and make management wonder if the pipes are haunted. It’s not a strike, it’s just “spontaneous plumbing mishaps.” Totally unrelated, of course.

Honestly, they’d never see it coming. Tiny acts of sabotage that feel like nothing… but when 100 people do them at once? That’s practically art. And who’s gonna call us out for “organized marker loss”? No one. It’s just office life.

Anyway, just some random thoughts. Not suggesting anything, obviously… just sharing a hypothetical for fun.

There are just under two billion shares of the outstanding CVX stock shares. The collective amount owned by employees is trivial. The institutional owners support the Board and ElLT - see the recent annual meeting where the Board was overwhelmingly voted in and nearly all measured past with more than 90% of voting shares. Face it, this ship has sailed and isn’t coming back.

Or... just leave! They are getting closer and closer to single point of vulnerability. By creating less of us, they are inadvertently placing more value in us. Scare them with an offer from elsewhere and watch them tremble and stutter, they need us now more than we need them

Do your job well, grow your skills, and manage your friendships.

The best thing you can do for others is (I) support them emotionally, (II) help them snag a spot at one of the many E&Ps that are actively hiring.

Jobs come and go. They are not permanent. There's no sense in griping over that which cannot (and should not) be controlled (i.e. layoffs).

Pick yourself up and show that you're worth that mid 6 figures total comp package.
