Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Sound familiar

Victoria’s Secret and Pink hit with “security threat” and most of this week they have not been able to process returns, gift cards, rewards or company credit card. Website is down as well. Must be the same people who hacked Belk.

That clarifies the legal side, what about the moral side? Oh I forgot the company is run with no decency or obligation to their associates.

Just to clarify something regarding data breach disclosure:

If Belk experienced a data breach, they’re not necessarily obligated to report it directly to the FTC unless the breach meets certain criteria or falls under FTC jurisdiction (like violating consumer protection laws).

In most cases, the legal obligation is to notify affected individuals—and that’s governed by state data breach notification laws, which vary. Some states require notification within a specific timeframe (like 30 or 45 days), while others are more flexible. A few states also require notifying the state Attorney General or consumer protection agency if the breach impacts a large number of residents.

That said, the FTC can investigate if it believes a company mishandled customer data or failed to take reasonable security measures—so it’s not that the FTC is never involved, just not always the first place companies report to.

Hope this helps clarify how the legal side of breach disclosure actually works.

Through all of this all they cared about was credit cards and apps. Now the problems with credit card payments not showing are starting to happen and of course the associates are left to deal with the customers. I still have no access to anything and I'm supposed call help desk and wait 2 hours which can't be done while on the floor. Things have been bad with Belk for a long time but I think this is really the beginning of the end.

@dg+1

They’re legally obligated to follow lots of laws that they completely ignore, one little data breach doesn’t matter to them.

As long as corporate is quiet about financials, the company is deeper and deeper and trouble, until one day they suddenly announce mass store closings and liquidation. If the company was doing well, it would be celebrated and everyone would be joyful. It's as simple as that.

Victoria secrets is publicly owned and has stock options so it was on the news the day it happened. Their stock plummeted. We are privately owned so they don’t have to announce what happened to us!!!
