Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Get out now

This company is being run into the ground. Thank you executives and board members. I hope everyone can get out while they can. I got rid of all and anything Chevron. May all of you prosper in your next chapter of your life. God speed.

That’s why loyalty to a company is severely misplaced. I never bought anything CVX branded or chose something with the brand for my anniversary gifts.
Companies are driven by $ not loyalty. Learned that years ago when I went though severe layoffs. Keep perspective on everything- this is not the only company out there.

Pretty much if you're under 40 or 45, use your Chevron time to sharpen your résumé with technical skills and accomplishments that are valued elsewhere. Remember in the real world the only things people understand are dollars and barrels. Don't bother with volunteering or Chevron social engineering networks, even within Chevron you're just a pawn for photo ops. Unless you're an anointed one, don't worry about performance ratings as these carry no weight whatsoever in the real world and you're not going to get a meaningful promotion or raise inside Chevron anyways. Network, network, network on the outside so you're ready to go on your own schedule or should something pop up.

If you're older than that, keep a low profile, do your job, offer to consult or mentor (ulterior motive: keeps your skills sharp and may uncover opportunities within Chevron where you can continue to "hide"), make no public or private comments critical of the company (even your closest friends are going to repeat what you said), keep abreast of industry trends (if your résumé is sharp, you may still be able to eke out a job somewhere else), practice all the current buzzwords, and secretly keep checking off the days remaining to retirement. Also skip the vacations to Kenya and instead fund your retirement account to the fullest allowed by law, so you can comfortably retire before 65.
