Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

EH should meet with the workers from Indonesia

Wouldn't it be such a human thing if EH met with the workers who traveled from Indonesia? It would send a strong message that we care.

(In addition to looking into and making changes to their wages.)

That’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for them

I bet the factories are paying for the workers to travel to demand Nike to pay more to the the factories. However, these Asian factories will pocket the higher pay rate rather than passing them to workers.

Why didn’t they just quit? Was labor forced upon them?

Another rich activist paying for other people to travel here and stir up BS and the media eating up. I’m tired of activists and I’m tired of the media. I’m tired of Nike being picked on as well when it comes to overseas labor. When this happened years ago, Nike took a big hit, which caused major layoffs and a bad reputation that people still talk about today when they weren’t even born yet. The same people just dislike big companies and want them to go down all while complaining of layoffs in the same breath. Yes, workers lost their jobs overseas as well because demand was lower. It’s exhausting. Seriously. The same people will then say I hate the U.S. and I’m going to go live in Indonesia because my apartment and food is cheaper. Guess why it’s cheaper? Because people make less! Did I mention I’m tired of activists.

Did anyone put a g-n to their heads and force them to work in Nike vendor's factories? Wages are determined by market forces of demand and supply.

Definitely for employees rights to fair labor. However, it completely misrepresents the inequity. The cost of living is completely different in Indonesia to that of the US. Additionally, factories are shared by many other footwear and apparel brands so to bark up only Nikes tree is just silly, I’m sure this is just some smear campaign.

They must be getting paid very well to fly internationally, I wonder if they flew first class or business?

How did they afford to travel here if that is their wage? Makes little sense, but maybe there is an explanation ?
