Overworked and undervalued

My salary’s been basically the same for years (insulting raises just for the sake of being able to say they gave me a raise), even as my workload keeps growing. I enjoy working here, but the job’s lost its spark with how little they care about us. Sadly, with the job market being shaky, it’s hard to decide whether to stick it out or take a risk and try something new.

I left to escape a Toxic, incompetent "manager" and found out she's taking over another team now too. Very disappointing, seems Risky when nobody can last on her team for more than 2 years....

Soon it will be all managers, no workers. What’s a manager to do at that point other than to lie on PowerPoints, make numbers up, and pretend things are functioning as they should.

I was a night team Manager. It was very difficult for me to be able to lead my team working nights. There would be changes to procedures during the day that no one would tell me about. At one point I was told to 'figure it out on my own' When that was my method of operation every day. After finding out after almost 2 years that the team has underperformed for over 5 years and 3 team managers before me they tried yo blame the underperformance on me and issued me a verbal after telling me 'your best isn't good enough' I was let go for 'budget cuts' when they are outsourcing my team to Poland.

Update your resume and start networking, don’t wait around. You don’t need to quit your job, but it’s smart to be proactive. Do what’s necessary at work, but use the rest of your energy to explore opportunities, connect with people, and apply. And hey, if a layoff happens, it might just be the push you need to move on to something better.

I think that the younger generations have it right. The only way to advance these days is to move from company to company. The days of staying at a single organization for decades is over. These companies are not loyal to their employees so there is no reason to extend such loyalty to them. Stay for a handful of years and then move on. Most people 45 and under are not going to have the privilege of staying with the same employer for life.

Continue to build your network, be involved within and outside the bank. I took the leap of faith and it was worth it. Better benefits, insurance, work life balance are out there. Advocate for yourself to get the most out of your career and this life. Best of luck to you!

You are not alone. In 8 years I’ve taken on an ever increasing amount of responsibilities, especially due to multiple cuts to my team and have even improved my skills by going back to school for graduate degree + other certifications out of my own pocket. How does the company show they value me? By giving me just enough merit increase to keep my compa ratio the same, refusing to pay for training and job-related certifications even though it was promised during hiring process, and ghosting me on internal interviews. It’s ironic that a financial services company does not see the value of relationships and investing in its employees.

I value the relationships I’ve built with some of the people I’ve worked with. The job I feel like I’m just mindlessly wondering through on a daily basis. Feel directionless at this point and go day to day wondering what is all of a sudden going to change with little notice. The company’s lack of caring is what has demotivated many of us.

Take the opportunity and start flinging resumes. If anything it’s practice. This job is no more secure than any other and they’ve got you stuck in salary. Do the bare minimum to get by and cut out time to take care of yourself.
