Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Mentally Drained

Is it possible to get workers compensation or disability for being mentally drained from office work and PTSD from having to go in the office? Can I get a doctor note to WFH or have reduced work schedule?

This company is morally bankrupt. I have a boss who travels all the time yet declined expenses for my entire team.

@b3 This is such well written, factually correct, and genuine post. Thank you so much for writing this, and please try to ignore the other poster pooh-poohing. You probably already know it, but I want to reinforce the point.

I come from a third world country. Generations after generations lost to war.

And YES I can say that the corporate world does in fact come with so much stress and politics from

  1. toxic “leaders
  2. lay offs
  3. office drama
  4. favoritism
  5. dysfunctional culture

So yes, I know what ptsd is from war and I know what ptsd is from work.

Whom ever says “do you ever know what trauma is” … lacks the empathy and the knowledge themselves.

Living in nyc I knew a co worker who witnessed people jump off building bc of deals gone bad in finance. So yeah I’d say corporate jobs can bring in mental issues.

Most of us are forced to work because we don’t have generational wealth. When you can’t choose you can only try your best to navigate a world made for the elite and the exceptional. If you are not elite or not exceptional and still need to provide you HAVE to learn to play corporate politics that are most of the time as dysfunctional and toxic as it comes.

I lived in nyc. Happy hours wear the time to complain and drink away pain.

Know your WHY. And I hope it’s to make your family proud or to break poverty of ancestors.

I know my WHY is my family.

PTSD from going into an office? May as well move back to your parents basement...you're not ready for the real world.

@cy Did you see how the cash-out requirement followed the statement about claim denial?

"you will be required to cash out any outstanding vacation time"

If you get the short-term disability claim approved, you only need to use 5 sick days and can keep your vacation days. I had to go through this for an employee last year.

You can take a medical leave of absence and file for short-term disability. These are separate action items.

Be prepared for the disability claim to be denied, in which case, you can take the leave of absence without pay. Also, you will be required to cash out any outstanding vacation time for the remainder of the year and will have none to use following your return until 2026.

I have c-ptsd. And I have done therapy and studied it.

Trauma is relative. So for some it’s big T like war and others yes it’s office politics and bullying co workers or a toxic environment.

Plus the entire planet was traumatized after a global pandemic. It all accumulated and many people age not taught to release trauma.

Trauma stays “stuck” in your body. We are wired to look for signs of danger and the toxic work spaces drive most people to feeling unsafe.

Trauma is being UNSAFE and not witnessed when something “bad” happens it’s NOT what happens it’s how the body reads it.

Do not compare war to politics all is relative both can mess people up. I’ve seen so many dark triad leadership people’s the too.

So yes c-ptsd is possible. Corporate world is very very twisted.

Don’t let yourself be gaslit into thinking what happens in the corporate world is not traumatizing.

You can file for an accommodation to work from home. You will need to get a doctor to fill out paperwork on what you would need for accommodation to be in the office so be sure to make sure your disability is something the office can't do for you. You will also have to renew this on a yearly or bi yearly basis depending on how difficult your HR rep wants to be.

Ignore the poster below commenting about people’s limbs getting blown off being the only catalyst of PTSD 🙄. Trauma comes in many forms. Whatever you’re experiencing is valid. If you have short term/long term disability coverage - look into it. I am currently exploring this for my mental health, as I have absolutely experienced abuse here and it has affected me, as much as I’ve tried to push through and not let it impact my personal well-being. Sometimes shizz just happens, and it unexpectedly rocks your mental health. There is a section in MyHR on the internet about time off. Use it if you need to/can. Your stress and overwhelm are valid reasons.

Do you really understand what PTSD is? I’m so tired of people throwing that out every time their feelings get hurt or they have to do something slightly hard. like driving into the office is in some way equivalent to trauma? I know it’s pretty similar to my buddies that were subjected to constant shelling, g-n fire and watching their friends limbs blown off. Maybe you can get over it with some intense treatment.

Just need to find the right doctor.
Several years ago, for the 3 years I was in the workgroup, a person took off every November, December, and came back mid January due to “depression”.
And I know of an FX Relationship Manager that took off July and August due to their “high blood pressure” a few times.
Not sure if the time off was paid or not, but they were both Senior Vice Presidents, so money wasn’t a concern.
