Should we be looking for employment elsewhere?

Very true 5thfloorgirl. I am realizing that many years in, all this culture-love kool-aid we keep seeing on company Zooms with heart emojis flying all over the place were a front. Once the company or your manager has no use for you (even if you are a high performer, and go above and beyond), they will find a way to terminate you. I've seen it to a few peers; so if anything, always be on the lookout for the next best gig. Nothing is forever in the corporate world grind. And make sure to create the life/work balance you need (or insist on it) because the company won't do it for you.
You should always be looking, regardless of the market. You owe nothing to your employer. Always do what is best for you and you alone when it comes to a job.
With that, make them pay you to leave.
