Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel Ireland

Has anyone heard anything about plans for the Irish Intel site? We got a very general update which basically repeated the earnings call message, no details. People don't seeem concered here and there is a feeling that, with so much growth planned, it is likely that growth will slow rather than heads being cut. Or at the worst, some will be outsourced, blue badge on Friday to green badge on Monday - that kind of thing. While I like to think it will be this painless I can't help worrying - a lot. I've young kids, mortgage etc.

Just heard our department is part of the layoffs. Strange as we are understaffed if you take in the new factory coming online.
Does that mean a closure?

Thanks all, yes it is very busy in my group and there are plenty who have served their time and content to move on if offered - which I fully understand. Mine is the primary household income so can't help but go through the 'what ifs' but hopefully things will work out.

Ireland is under staffed, and with the salaries being lower (Yes shocking is lower than US) You are safe. You need to ramp hiring with all that is going on and coming online. Your future at Intel Ireland is very much secure, I would not worry at all.

When Intel cancels IDM 2.0 or offloads the fab, that is when it would be time to worry, but we would have to lose Pat first for those to occur.

You'll be grand if you do a bit more than the slackers, plus there's enough lads there over the 15/16yr cap that would be delighted to volunteer for a redundancy deal.

Also, Pharma is booming and are mad to hire on Techs so either way you'll not need to worry too much.

It is a fab site with bare minimum support groups (HR, IT, etc.). There probably is not much scope to cut SG&A through redundancies. Most will survive I guess.

Thanks and yes I will start to look into options, if only for my own peace of mind. The attitude here is strange, people don't even seem to be awaiting an update, they just think we will be fine.

Re. the other post about energy costs, do you mean that in terms of the general rising cost base here or did you mean something more specific? Sorry I am not sure exactly what you are suggesting I plan for. Thanks.

Look at the energy situation and think about what could happen and plan for that.

The cuts are coming, headcount, programs, budgets and sites. I would look into a backup plan just in case. Take care of you and your family first.
