Thread regarding Peacehealth Southwest Medical Center layoffs

Flimsy cost-cutting circus

Ugh-here we go again, PeaceHealth chopping off 1 percent of its workforce at Sacred Heart RiverBend in Springfield and Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver… like that’s gonna fix rising costs and “improve performance” any better than a band-aid on a broken leg. Some hard-working nursess got blindsided and now they’re begging their union for transparancy as patient care teeters on the brink. the union is sick of empty corporate platitudes. they act like this is normal business. the community deserves better than this corporate fallback.

Offering transitional “support” while slamming the door on new hires with a freeze through 2025 won’t stop the bleeding. Cut frontline caregivers when budgets tighten, but promise quality care at the same time - genius strategy. Clinical roles “excepted” from the freeze so at least someone can keep the lights on, right? Meanwhile managers pat themselves on the back for being responsible stewards of a system they helped mismanage.

And let’s not forget the claim that these layoffs are “necessary for long-term sustainability” as if picking on the weakest link builds strength. Hiring freeze, sudden pink slips, no word on which departments got hit hardest - total murkiness. If PeaceHealth really cared about its healing mission, it wouldn’t treat its workforce like expendable line items. Next time, how about real leadership instead of this flimsy cost-cutting circus?
