@84p I would have accepted a low ball offer. US citizen here. I am a former Nokia employee laid off during COVID. I have active Nokia certifications in routing and optical. I applied to a dozen jobs this year and for the two that interviewed me was told both I am under qualified and over qualified for very similar roles. They interviewed me but it was clear the hiring managers were making attempts to find something that would make me not a good fit. When I was let go my whole team was impacted, I was not selected out for layoff. I had a stellar Nokia experience but getting back into the company in this H1B climate is difficult.

Nokia is transferring those H1Bs that they laid off on June 5th to other groups. Hopefully, the new CEO will stop this practice. The CEO should look at the directors and managers who have hired H1Bs throughout their career at Nokia. There is some deep unethical stuff going on in NAM. And don't ask Nokia Ethics team or HR to do the investigation, cause they are all protecting each other.
What I don't understand is, for 1 Nokia job opening, if there are, let's say, 75 resumes submitted by applicants, then why is the job given to a work visa person (H1B, O1, L1, etc). Out of the 75 resumes, Nokia managers couldn't find one qualified US Citizen for the job? And even if the argument is that Nokia salaries are low, you can't tell me that "all" US Citizens who were offered the job declined. Jobs are difficult to come by these days for recent graduates, so that argument doesn't hold.

Nokia has laid off thousands of people throughout the years (since it can be proven by the empty building that have been sold recently) but never on the WARN notice. Question: Is it less likely for a company to get h1b application approval if they are on the WARN notice list?

Nokia transferring 400 CNS (cloud network solutions) folks from different countries to Capgemini. Better than getting laid-off and having to look for another job right away.

Nokia is hostile to U.S. employee. You can argue all you want about different country laws and protection diffrences Nokia claims people are first except for when they can game that system due to country laws. They could provide a common experience across countries but they don't. Managers are not held to a higher standard here and get away with bad behaviors. The tone is set from the top down and you are reading on this site what that tone looks like.

@5f2 the thing is because of the pathetic salary and benefits at nokia I don't think any american kids would like to join such a company. If you ask them about nokia in colleges there would be a whole bunch of them surprised that nokia is still in business. Only foreignen workers are willing to apply nokia now. American kids will choose nokia only when the market is extraordinarily bad like a world war is taking place or so.

@4z7 Jobs have been posted for months and years, and don't get filled. Only when an h1b visa holder gets laid-off, all of a sudden that job gets filled, or another new posting for a job is created with an already known (h1b) candidate that will fill that position. Nokia NAM for many years have made this practice a Nokia internal "law". I can give you "easily" many examples of people who were on h1b visa that were transferred to another totally different job within the same organization or a completely different organization without any skills that were specifically needed by that organization.

If you were recently laid off and are on h1b visa (or other type of visa), DO NOT WORRY. Nokia will offer you another job within the company. They have always favored offering jobs to TEMPORARY visa holders. Just look around you. Every other employee is a visa holder.

They still have quite a few folks in their late 60's (who are eligible for medicare) and 70's that are hanging around since they don't want to retire, and managers and directors are protecting them. Instead, that money could be used to hire folks that will actually make the company grow.

Let's see if Justin does anything to correct this or is he going to be another absent CEO just to collect his $25 Million and get some on the job training for his next job.
