Dell Layoff Crisis Human Toll Too Heavy

The relentless cycle of layoffs, persistent job insecurity, mandatory five-day office attendance, and low company morale at Dell is driving employees toward burnout, severe mental health issues, and even su----e.

This unsustainable environment, marked by two years of continuous layoffs, takes a profound toll on mental well-being and human lives. It’s not just about numbers, it’s about people, and this trajectory is unsustainable in the long term.

I’m burned out myself, forced to seek professional help that costs me dearly, far beyond what I already spend commuting to and from work. Thank you Dell for ruining my mental health.

Yeah, I could get in the job market, and maybe leave on my own terms.

Or I could stay simply to spite Dell, incrementally reducing both the volume and quality of my work. I could also bring an unfriendly and gloomy vibe to everyone I encounter, furthering the overall morale decline. I could do these things until I get a fat severance offer, at which point I could start on the job hunt.

Hmmmm. Hard to choose. Super hard.

if the press got known statistics in early deaths , disabilities cases, psychological diseases on Dell crew there will be a great scandal and indenisations to everyone affected. The layoff packages would be a joke from the money they will have to waste.

Dell has turned into the Wal-Mart of IT the money and their lavish parties can be impressive but the leadership is mostly hot garbage who couldn't cut it on the phones

"You were probably one of those old folk on the team that didnt do anything while you withheld key information that would make everyones job easier, all to falsely give you a sense of relevancy."

I had a 68 yrs old boomer in my team. She literally withheld information and as a "senior" member gave feedback about me that I needed guidance. Ultimately the product she was leading for 2 yrs was never able to get any customer and it was scraped and she was laid off. I can assure you that boomers in DELL , if they are still employed - is not because of their merits/skills. It is only due to the PURE evil politics they did to hold onto their position.

"What a bunch of spoiled babies. I worked 46 years and the last few were during COVID at Dell. The first 42 I had to go into an actual office and work for 5 days a week, mostly 10 or more hours a day. You poor put upon people will receive no pity or support from most of us 40 yo and older."

Crusty old boomer has entered the chat.

By your own words, you imply that you retired so why are you even here pops? You were probably one of those old folk on the team that didnt do anything while you withheld key information that would make everyones job easier, all to falsely give you a sense of relevancy. I hope to God you werent a manager with a toxic mindset like yours. Are you late for bingo?

you mean they're realists who understand the solution to the problem. Crying and whining on an anonymous message board aren't going to fix the problems with Dell. Nothing is going to fix the problems with Dell. The solution is to update your resume and leave the company if it's that bad. Sometimes a dose of reality is what people need to hear. Not emotional coddling.

Please seek professional help, as much as we'd like to help and support, the most important thing is that you take care of yourself with the assistance of a professional.

Make sure your loved ones know what you’re going through.Too many people think they can handle it and don’t want their loved ones to worry.

My niece was shocked when her ex-husband, with whom she maintained a cordial relationship, committed su----e. He was a veteran and went through a lot, but insisted he was find and could handle it.

After his death she was distraught because he was always ‘fine’. Shortly after his death she posted. “If you’re going through tough times, please tell me.I’d rather you cry on my shoulder than me cry at your funeral.”

I am wrecked by the toxic environment as well.

My "team mates" which are not even in my scrum team (but under same manager) refuse to help on any question so scared i would outperform them for bonus.. :/ I was always sharing info etc, but I am tired of one way comms

paranoia, yesman culture and hiding information is the new norm.

WTF is happening with the infrastructure lately? its like issues with lab almost every week.. are all technicians fired already?

Find some form of fulfillment that has nothing to do with your job. Dell is a place to work, not your family, not your buddy, not your sanctuary and not your therapist. It’s a job. Your true power lies within and should not be defined by your external circumstances at a job. Just one person’s take.

I want to do my best for Michael, Jeff and the whole exec team. We're one big happy family to the extent that I threw out my family pictures and have a picture of Michael on the mantle. He is counting on us to step up so don't let him down. Don't let us down. Do your job.

I no longer go above and beyond. I do the minimum to keep myself productive and everything else can wait.

They dont care about me, so why should i go out of my way to make them happy?

Put yourself and your mental well being first. If you died or quit tomorrow, theyd replace you in a heartbeat and not even think twice about you.

Many people at Dell are struggling just to get through the day—some relying on painkillers, benzodiazepines, illegal dr-gs (co----e) or other medications to cope. I personally know of individuals who developed serious illnesses, including cancer, while working at Dell. Sadly, at least two of them have passed away, and another is currently in remission after leaving the company.

There are also employees still in the queue who are mentally exhausted and burned out. I know three people in this state—they are overwhelmed and struggling to keep going.

Even more distressing, I personally know four individuals who are contemplating su----e. Two of them were laid off and haven’t been able to find work. One is dealing with mental health challenges and no longer has insurance. Two others are still employed at Dell but feel hopeless about the future; Dell has been their entire career, and they can’t envision a path forward without it.

While I haven’t felt sui-idal myself, I have been deeply overworked and stressed. For years, I prioritized my goals over my health. Eventually, I realized I needed to find balance between my job and personal life. Still, I worry about job security. I’ve spent two decades working at Dell, and the fear of losing my job—with bills and responsibilities piling up—has been a major source of anxiety for me lately. Checking this website doesn't help ease that stress.

If you guys contemplate su----e, please seek immediately medical help.

Demoted Sr Manager here, don't let this depress you. Just do the bare minimum not to get fired. Polish your resume and get it out there. Leave when the opportunity is right or worst case let them pay you to leave. Besides, summer is here, get out and enjoy it....be sure to badge in first though.

Dell was wrecking me mentally and physically, and still I clung to my job out of fear of change. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten inside Dell until after my WFR. The toll of grinding in that environment, pushing hard to be the ultimate 'company man' can be brutal. I was not sleeping well for months. The stress had a real impact: drinking too much, sleeping poorly, gaining weight, and being irritable and anxious outside of work. As much as I root against Dell now, i do feel for the people that are still in that environment. I would never go back there.
