Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle- the late entry always and not safe place

Oracle is always a late entrant in technology and good in copying. In Cloud it was late but during Covid it gained momentum . If not Covid , Oracle would be dead in water. Same with AI. Everyone is boasting the buzzwords without actual content or knowledge.
Oracle survives only due to Government projects and if it loses stargate. It has nothing to survive in future AI market. Oracle has more text contents and no image or video data like facebook or YouTube. Most data are Customer. We survive only with minimal data. In long run, it’s going to be challenging. Maybe again bring some people from FAANG like what OCI did.
Future is dim for Oracle employees. stagnant with 2% till you go or let go.
A management shuffle has to happen. We don’t care about H1B or offshore. But lots of stagnant managers who still stay safe in these layoffs.

@cm+1jvkx47e5 there's a reason people are stagnant at Oracle. Because they don't give raises. Why work harder when you don't get paid more as you gain experience or become more efficient? Management hasn't figured that out. Instead, they continue the cycle of layoff and hire newbies, preferably H1-Bers.

Oh that young shiny toy mantra is very true. I had this one SVP. She was like an old Barbie. Knew nothing about tech and was a laughing stock. Any time we’d acquire some new tech, she’d be like a dog in heat to pump it out the door. And when there were no takers, they were the first to go. I sometimes think of her as the prime example of “you can have zero skills, zero to offer, zero knowledge on the app” and still be successful. Sadly, the people she managed were cowards.

'Zero mentorship!' In fact the opposite takes place.

In the divide and con world, new staff are taught to think of the one who had been there for a long time as being overhead, and the old timers were told that the young guys knew nothing. It was a game on both sides to keep the infighting going.

As former Oracle.....I saw a ton of people who absolutely hated go-getters. They hated people who were willing to think outside the box. I have seen people with great ideas be told by their manager, "that's not going to work....but send me over your idea in an email or doc". Same manager just takes the idea, tosses it up to his boss as his own and next thing they knew, the unit was running with it. There is ZERO mentorship. When I was there, people in every dept were thirsty for growth and knowledge. The mgmt was and still is among the worst. Static people doing the same BS for like decades. Why is there very little growth? You can't move statues. That is what a lot of senior/mgmt folks are there as...statues. Let's be honest. Oracle will be living off their legacy customers forever. Their cloud isn't even in the conversation. I doubt many there know what AI even stands for. I think for lots of go-getters who landed at Oracle in their 20's or were part of acquisition....Oracle was the worst decision of their life. I know so many who regret their time there. And the ones still there.....their work will be forgotten by tomorrow morning. Total statue farm.
