Demotion if you post below PSG?

Will you be seriously considered if you apply for psg below you current level? (note: all technical Qualifications are met)

Example: Job is posted as 19-20 and you’re currently at 21. Does that mean they are overpaying you and can get somebody for cheaper? Thoughts? Thanks

If you are psg 21, you can post for career ladder jobs listed as psg 19-20 as well as psg 22-23. In both cases you may not be as desirable or competitive, but if you land either job your psg, pay, benefits, etc remain the same. As some have noted, if you land the 19-20, it will be harder to get promoted in role as the position isn’t graded to have higher psgs. That being said, not impossible, they can regrade the position or move you to another similar role in the team with a higher range of psgs.

I think its weak that people are able to apply to a PSG below.

Maybe read the directions. You can only see PSGs you're eligible to apply for.

So if I am a PSG 21. Can I apply to PSG 22-23 roles or only 21-22 and below?

This is not true. If you’re a 24 and post for a CL 22-23, you keep your 24, the same CO, same everything. Nothing changes.

demotion to another career ladder
pay remain stagnant or adjusted for COL only
a form of pay freeze

There’s no promotion or demotion for career ladder jobs.

The vast majority of these jobs are career ladder. Apply away.

Unless you’re a psg 26 who didn’t land in the last round, applying to a placed psg 25 job.. those are rare compared to everything else out there

Some managers don’t want a staff member pegged at the top of the pay scale who will get zero raises, skew group pay distribution, and be anxious to get a promotion back to their prior psg.

You don’t get demoted you’ll still be a 21 and pay doesn’t change. It will just be impossible to get a promotion while you’re in that role and raises will be minimal if any

The consistency if there was any in this whole process , if you’re the best person for the job then that’s the role you will get , regardless if it’s a position up or down.
