Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

External Interviews

I’ve been interviewing for 3 months now, I’ve had multiple offers, waiting to see the org chart before I pull the trigger.

One thing I keep seeing is that every company has India doing engineering work. They usually have a 4-5 high level engineers in the US and the rest are in India.

Of the 15 interviews I’ve had, 5 companies are homegrown. They are small scale, 5-10% paycut, but still prefer US based employees. Anyone else seeing the same? Is it really worth jumping ship to deal with this cr-p elsewhere?

A bird in the bush is worth more than the layoff in the hand.
a 10% pay cut is nothing, take the new job....

@bn+1 It is a total fantasy that the US can be some kind of stand alone economic island, that ship sailed decades ago if it ever existed.

Voting matters. Current admin is at least trying to reshore some manuf. Let ALL your elected reps know you're against offshoring. I write mine frequently.

Until we get leadership at the federal level that cares about America as a nation, this is going to be the norm. Companies are incentivized to offshore work not just for labor arbitrage, but for tax benefits as well. Unfortunately the uniparty doesn’t really care about doing what is good for America. They see these United States as a multicultural economic territory. And politicians don’t represent their constituents; they represent donors. The donors, those who control the capital at the investment firms and big tech, along with the federal reserve are not American at heart. They are an international parasitic syndicate, and they do not pledge allegiance to our flag. They will continue to exploit America until the economy collapses, and then they will move on to another host.

Nothing is going to change because the system is rigged. Your only hope to live in a world where your kids don’t have to compete for jobs against third worlders is to support American nationalism and elect politicians that put America’s interests above the interests of their donors instead of participating in the red vs. blue kayfabe. There’s currently only one politician who does this, and that’s Thomas Massie from Kentucky. He doesn’t take money from foreign special interest groups or PACs.

A lot of layoffs for large tech companies- they are saying the layoffs are due to AI but it’s because they are offshoring. Same situation we are currently in. The medium sized companies seem to be doing less offshoring- for now. Getting hard to avoid.

That’s the depressing part.

Chevron is still a flaming dumpster fire, but it’s a symptom of a broader problem.

This nonsense is everywhere. And I’m. It sure leaving is going to mean the grass is much greener. I mean, it might not be dead and filled with arsenic and lead like it is at Chevron, but it will still be dead and brown.
