Thread regarding USAA layoffs

New opportunity at USAA

I have never worked for USAA before.

How are the prospect for analytical careers?
What is the work culture?
What is the amount of overtime per week?
Is it a high stress environment?
Is there room to move from one department to another?
Does the San Antonio office control the decision-making process? I am outside of TX.

Thank you

Bank's analytics group is almost done reorging and RIF-ing. P&C is about to start their reorg/RIF-ing with the b.s. 2030 strategy built on stupidity. CDAzo/marketing is always in flux. They have continuous reorgs, then hire those people back at 25% higher because our HR dept is full of stupid people. You should go to HR - they have the highest rate of JAR approvals and WFH folks. Over 50% WFH. Most of the recruiters live within 10 miles of an office but have an excuse the rest of us are not allowed to use.

Benefits are better than most companies. Bonus is good at 20-30%

But, be ready for a 50 hour work week at a minimum! There is constant top-down todos given without staffing.

Google “USAA compliance week”

Notably articles from 2024 and 2022.

There should be 1 in 2024 and 3 in 2022. Nothing has changed.

“ In the 15 years I’ve been writing for Compliance Week, never have I covered a company that has evoked as much anger and palpable relief from so many current and former employees as USAA—anger toward its senior executives and management, and relief someone finally had the courage to come forward publicly.”

Why does this feel like an AI / bot question lol.

My advice…scroll through the posts and catch the vibe. The only question that won’t be answered is the decision making in San Antonio…I’m not even sure how to answer that. What decisions? At what level? For the most part “yes”, it is the HQ. If you are located with your boss, then those decisions there. But your boss / leader may be located out of Tampa or Colorado…so again depends?

LOL. This isn’t the place to research whether you want to work there or not.

Try it out for yourself. I've had both, good and bad experiences. I have health coverage and school tuition. There is a lot of favoritism here and it's not what you know, its who you know. I don't think the "underdog" ever gets noticed, so unless you shine, you won't get noticed. Speaking up is encouraged, but it is considered complaining, so if you do that it puts you on the naughty list and therefore you are black balled. Once you are black balled, you won't get promoted or the opportunity to move to different departments. Therefore, if you keep your nose down and to yourself, you'll be ok.

Uhhh… you serious? You’ve seen the posts here. You so silly.

Lemme help you out

Work culture - you’ll love it. Nothing like it anywhere. Almost cult like.

The pay - You write your own check - work as much as you’d like…. or not.

Stress - None. Take paid naps as needed.

Decisions - unknown who makes them… no one ever takes credit for the excellent decisions that are made here.

Moving from one department to another - Everyone loves it here. There is no turnover so moving around could be a challenge.

Consider yourself fortunate if you land here. It’s the pinnacle of insurance companies…you’ve made it.
