Uniti Lowers 2025 Outlook After Q1 Income Falls on Rising Expenses

Windstreams new parent is struggling. You know what that means. The only way they know to cut expenses is to cut people.

Uniti Group of Little Rock on Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $12.2 million, down 70.5% from $41.3 million in the same quarter last year. Earnings per share were 5 cents, down from 16 cents in the first quarter of 2024.

Stock was down 10% in afternoon trading.

I bought 10L in Uniti the day the merger announce at 2.60 and sold in Dec at 6.12. gave myself a Christmas bonus as WS wasn't ever going to give me one. My 2% increase last week didn't really do anything. I guess I could order a Domino's one topping every two weeks to celebrate.

I always find it amusing how Uniti (and Windstream) avoid citing GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and said results. EBITDA and OBIDA terms I suppose are getting stale and thus they are now citing AFFO. How amusing!

  • Here is why the decline: Despite a modest 2.61% year-over-year increase in total revenues to $293.9 million for the first quarter of 2025, Uniti's GAAP net income saw a significant contraction. The reported net income attributable to common shareholders fell sharply to $11.9 million from $40.9 million in the same period last year.
  • Uniti also suspended dividend payments to common shareholders during the first quarter - could this be a bad omen?
  • Really - "premier insurgent fiber powerhouse." - seek mental help if you are buying this line. What was the lines before - world class provider, software power house......etc.
  • Synergies - projecting 125 million / year in savings - another worn over line and definitely not anything the common employee should embrace. Guess they are as valued as the common stock holder - as in NOT MUCH
