Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Is Mark Taking Us All for Fools?

Is anyone else completely floored by how BRAZENLY our execs are lying about our "AI strategy"? Like, are they serious with this BS? In the earnings call, Mark went on and on about "AI First" and how we're an "AI-led organization" as if we're some kind of cutting-edge ML company.

What "AI products" is he even talking about?? I've been forced to use Aviator (when it works at all), and it's a complete dumpster fire that can barely string together a coherent response. It's literally just a GPT API wrapper with our logo slapped on it.
Meanwhile, we're cutting 2,000 REAL jobs because supposedly "AI can do the work now"? In what universe? They can't possibly believe this garbage themselves. Does Mark actually think everyone – employees, customers, analysts – are all complete mo--ns who can't see through this?

It's beyond embarrassing. It's like watching your drunk uncle at Thanksgiving claiming he invented Facebook. I'm genuinely curious: is this whole "strategy" just a desperate attempt to prop up the stock price, or has the executive team genuinely convinced themselves of their own fiction?

What's next - will we start claiming we're a quantum computing company too? A space exploration pioneer? Where's the limit to this fantasy?

Anything is possible if Mark can dream it up.

I mean, as far as I know, OT isn't doing any novel cutting-edge proprietary AI research, right? They're just using one of the several LLMs that are available to everybody.

Selling this as a "product" is weird - it's like if I decided to start a shipping company, where, for a surcharge, I tell FedEx to pick up your package and deliver it somewhere.

How much are you going to pay me for my shipping service?

at OpenText it’s all about the stock price and quick wins.

Next thing you know Mark and Sandy will be doing infomercials and the products will say AI “as seen on TV.”

Modern day vacuum cleaner sales pitch.

Wasn't Mark singing the praises of "everything in the cloud" just a couple of years ago? What happened with that? Now it's "100% AI everything". He doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground and it constantly jumping on the newest bandwagon.

I have worked for several large companies and Mark is by far the worst CEO I've ever worked for. Maybe he's looking to temporarily pump the stock by laying off thousands so he can dump his shares.

They had an AI product 7 years ago: Magellan. If they couldn't execute with that head start what do you think they can do now that they're behind? I'm in AI working with the hot-shot teams at fortune 500 companies, no one know who opentext is.

Couldn't agree more. We just keep repeating the BS and clapping hands for mediocrity. Hope something changes soon.
