Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Saw posts here wanted to say few things

I am new here and I am coming to know about the layoff. I saw some posts and I wanted to say few things.
Impacted team peoples are still staying and helping us. They are giving KT with patience and showed big professionalism. After getting message also, they are helping without hesitation.
I am not knowing everything, but I am believing open text is strong and still focusing on future. I am thankful for being part and hoping we will be doing good work ahead.

Mark’s direct reports only tell him what he wants to hear. If they deliver bad news or challenge him, they are quickly let go. And where OpenText is now is a result of years of ignoring issues. Now after the botched MicroFocus acquisition and no new acquisitions there is no where to hide and all the yes people have just gone quiet. So now it’s the Mark, Sandy, Shannon and Chad show with alternative facts and hyperbole. Someone needs to acquire OpenText to get things set back to right.

HP or Microfocus did the same and found out the hard way that knowledge transfer were critical. They had to pay more to get 3 months of training for the new team.
I guess someone at OT remember and trying to get some knowledge transfer happening.
Typical management who have not work up the ranks and have no idea what's it's like to work a real job.

"There's no way they'll let you stick around after being told you'll be let go."

Not entirely accurate. It really depends on the group from which you're let go. I know of a group that was kept on specifically for KT for a few months. They did the bare minimum and without any enthusiasm at all, but the severance was contingent upon it, so...

There's no way they'll let you stick around after being told you'll be let go. Not for 10 minutes let alone months to "train" your replacement. At least they don't get escorted out by armed guards although it feels like it.

Maybe OpenText should move the headquarters to India and just layoff all the employees outside of India except Mark B. Really not sure today if this is a Canadian or US company.

Or instead, maybe OpenText gets acquired buy one of the big tech companies headquartered in India https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Tech_(India)?wprov=sfti1

This message is totally coming from Hyderabad, a lousy OpenText site where the site manager, thinks she’s the next CEO. She’s dead certain she crushed it with Mark and can pull it off again. Get real, this is a dead end—you’re gonna crash and burn soon, with nobody to bail you out, and just some rude, loud je-k screaming at you. Oh, and by the way, there’s no legit AI at OpenText’s Hyderabad team. You just fudge the data and churn out fancy decks to snag more funding, including hardware. Honestly, it’s anyone’s guess who’s scamming who here—maybe Mark isn’t always the one playing tricks.

Nice try, Hyderabad. We know you fear everyone just not answering your calls and leaving you to figure all this out on your own after decades of experience is shown the door.

You deserve to fail.

This post drips with sycophancy. The creator must be either an HR representative or a miserable employee assigned to monitor this platform, report to management, and fabricate propaganda to restore Opentext tarnished image. We know Opentext inside and out.
By the way, once you have your meeting with Human Resources, your access to the network will be disabled. Next time, if you intend to lie, at least make it believable.

Always remember a person’s worth is not simply related to their ability to generate profit for others. At a good company, there is a combination of community and profit. Don’t be fooled with corporate propaganda on social media like LinkedIn and Instagram where companies highlight employees saying how great the company is. It’s all smoke and mirrors like a time share pitch. Remember the minute you are an expense for the company, the “community” will throw you out. Hope OpenText does not continue down that route. Mark needs to read my first sentence to have a code of ethics outside of just capitalism.

M is such a bloviating mess of a human.
He certainly does not care about mankind.
He is an i d i o t when it comes to understanding where AI is right now and how long it will take to train various engines to replace serious jobs.
All of his peers must be laughing their a s s e s off when they read the s t u p i d things he says. No serious leader would tell their current workforce they are no longer relevant and are going to be replaced soon.

Totally agree - most OT employees and management are excellent and that’s true with some of Mark’s direct reports. The issue is Mark and some of his leaders, if they left. The toxic environment would go away and most employees would be committed to making OT products and AI a success.

NEVER PUSH A LOYAL PERSON TO THE POINT WHERE THEY DON’T CARE ANYMORE.

“When all employees are quiet, that’s when you should start to worry.”

As you have said, you are new here. It's best you seek career away from OT unless Mark goes. There are better companies who focus on the long term unlike OT.
There's nothing wrong with OT employees. So of the nicest professional people I have known and always willing to help despite stress and strains from stupid management strategies. It's the management that's currently the issues.
Long timers see the cycles repeating. It wouldn't be long before you get the layoff too and starts to understand the others who have been laid off. Best to go earlier then become one of the nice people soon to be layoff helping with the onboarding.

When I read these threads, I feel like it’s a combination of Michael Douglas in the movie Falling Down where he says “l lost my job. Actually I didn't lose it. It lost me. I'm overeducated, underskilled—Maybe it's the other way around. I forget—but I'm obsolete. I'm not economically viable” and the scene in the movie Network where everyone shouts “I’m mad as he-l and I’m not going to take it anymore.” The problem is that executives are like the last verse in the song Vincent “they would not listen, they're not listening still. Perhaps they never will”

Sounds like OpenText will be hiring AI programmers and developers, so they must cut expenses on everything and everyone else to hire top AI talent. It’s an all in bet. If it works, they could be a leading tech company in the AI space. If not, they will go into the tech graveyard with WebVan and Flooz.

I appreciate the enthusiasm and hope in OpenText where you remain. There are few things worse than being employed over years for an organization you don't believe in and you feel does not believe in you. So in sincerely, I hope you can retain those hopes.

In my time at OpenText, I got to know people close to the CEO. It was important to me to know the real man that was publishing the story of what OpenText was, because there is no separation between behavior and belief ... words are a distraction, what a person does is true to who they are.

You need to do the same now. Only that way can you correctly degend or question your company. Theiught it you should also be asking yourself if the values of the leadership align with your own.

Agree. AI is just the latest marketing at OT. Before that it was Titanium X. Before that it was 'everything in the cloud'. MF was often referred to as the hospice of software. OT is just doing the same thing with better marketing.

Sorry to say, but this has nothing to do with AI. OpenText lacks the leadership and culture needed to innovate and grow, and many of its products are in decline. Workforce reductions have occurred regularly in the past, regardless of any developments in AI.
These cuts stem from the company’s failure to nurture talent and drive meaningful growth. As a result, cost-cutting becomes the default strategy — implemented in ways that harm the company’s long-term potential.
Just look at the stock performance in recent years compared to the broader market — it tells the real story. AI is a separate issue entirely.

OpenText is strong and is innovative. They are doing what all tech companies will be doing by the next decade. If you are committed to working with AI specialists to automate your role or your team’s roles, you will have a long career at OpenText. If you fight AI and automation and reject the corporate objectives you will be laid off. This is not unique to OpenText… this will be the case for all publicly traded companies with share holders. It all about the stock price. If you got laid off it means you were not in the right place. Working for a publicly traded company is not for everyone. Different strokes for different folks.

We lost crucial team members with valuable knowledge and experience — and they were gone within a day. It's difficult to understand how the company decides who will be laid off, especially as there is no consultation with relevant middle management or stakeholders.
Rather than making the company stronger, these workforce reductions seem to weaken it — potentially setting the stage for further cuts down the line.

Not true. When you get laid off, do you really think you'll be able to hang around for a couple of weeks? Nope! Your OT access is pulled in about 1 hour after the HR meeting.

If you're hanging around to train your replacements, that's stupid on your part. Get your resume polished for the next round, coming to theaters near you in July 2025.
