Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

when asked what to do during job selection notification if one has no access to computer, HR said, they will tell us when time is closer.

why Chevron cannot be more proactive???

I was laid off from a company several years ago when I told my leadership team I could not travel to a management meeting in Europe because my son was scheduled to be born during the week of the meeting. They laid me off me off the Friday before all the managers were leaving for the meeting. I was disappointed they laid me off but in hindsight it was the best thing that could have happened. The place was toxic and they prioritized a management boondoggle in Europe over the birth of my son. I enjoyed the birth of my son much more than spending a week with a bunch of loser men that expected me to miss the birth of my son. A$$holes in my opinion.
They job is gone but I still have my adult son and I am thankful I was there for his birth.

As someone who works in one of the HOU’s it pays to visit a production location or two.
We have people here that spend more time outdoors than indoors. Not everyone has immediate access to a computer.

I side with OP

Someone could have a special celebration of birthday, anniversary, whatever, and be in a location that doesn’t support communication. Our world shouldn’t stop for this company. You’ll regret far more missing out on whatever you have planned than on a job with this POS company, and I speak from personal experience

We've known the dates for a while now. The amount of people I'm hearing about still taking vacation during this time is mind-blowing. So OP, are you asking because you expect a company that is looking to drastically reduce US workforce, to make an exception because people planned poorly.
Take a damn laptop or tablet that has access and ensure you have internet. But seriously, those following this path might show them that your job isn't as important as it should be and maybe we give your position to someone more committed. Is that true, of course not, but why give them any excuses.

This happened to a coworker of mine in 2020. They were on leave but in scope and without access to the CVX network. It happens for legit reasons. Not often, but it does. In that case, they let their supervisor represent them and do the selection tool (IIRC).

But was handled as a one off, so not surprised they don’t have a fixed plan. But it’s manageable. That being said, if you are one of those one-offs, it’s incumbent on you to proactively be connecting with your supervisor to make sure you don’t get lost.

Maybe you should ask how can I seamlessly apply for a job while vacationing on a cruiise in Greece ….I’m aware about a few these entitled types in our team

HR and Management are making up the rules as they go along.
The reason why no one can give any clear information is because they don't know

You should have taken the AEOI when you had the chance.

A computer?! I mean c’mon this has to be a bot or fake post. I guess you also don’t have a smart badge.. or a current job

They know. Basically selection rep just selects for you. Obviously this is a bad idea unless your boss guaranteed your job.

If you can’t figure out how to have a computer during the process well that says it all right there.
