I worked a Union position with a health insurer on the west coast. Wages were awesome. Cost of living raises. I hated to leave (personal circumstances) and when I did I took about a 30% pay cut. I was paid so well I didn’t miss those union dues. And the managers had to engage in labor management partnership. It gives workers a voice. Completely different dynamic than this top down stuff.
Legacy Beacon (now CBH) in Michigan is a UAW union shop, down to a couple dozen people from a few hundred years ago. Business has been lost but they have moved work to other CBH offices and offshore. The union can’t protect your job.
Go for it though!
It's from an article, not 'executive opinion' lmfao.
Sorry reality clashes with your belief system. TDS is real.
Ignore the executive mo--n in chief in here who thinks UPS failed because of teamsters and not a orange tu-d tarrifing our allies and reducing national shipping massively.
Figured it's an exec since only execs have that thoughtless of opinions.
We’re all going down. Offshore and AI. Unions work. Even recently in the news newly formed unions work. It can’t prevent us from getting laid off, but it gives us protections when that happens. Which at this point our time is ticking.
How it started 9/12/23:
United Parcel Service's (UPS.N), opens new new five-year deal with Teamsters-represented workers will cost less than the $30 billion that was outlined by the union, the delivery firm's chief financial officer said on Tuesday.
The contract covers about 340,000 UPS workers in the United States and will increase wage and benefit costs at a 3.3% compound annual growth rate over the life of the agreement.
How it's going:
UPS has announced plans to lay off 20,000 workers and close 73 facilities as part of a broader strategy to reduce costs and improve efficiency, including a shift away from delivering Amazon packages. The layoffs are expected to be spread throughout the year, and the facility closures are scheduled to happen by the end of June. The move follows a previous announcement of 12,000 layoffs in 2024, also linked to rising labor costs and the impact of a new Teamsters contract.
The union executives make about what other executives make. Why is this looked at as a “bad” thing. Our executives make way more and are only looking for ways to get rid of more and more employees. The union does help you. My dad worked in the union his whole life and has excellent pension benefits. The union dues don’t go towards nothing, they go to protect your interest of the American worker. It’s the cost of doing business in America where you have to pay lobbyists to help your cause. I personally think unionizing wouldn’t help us at this point, EH would just figure out a way to offshore even more roles. This place is too far gone from being saved.
The union adds zero value to a company's bottom line.
The executives are overpaid but they aren't stealing.
Pretty obvious that there are union lackeys getting paid to post this nonsense...which, again, doesn't have a snowball's chance in he-l of happening.
Those who don’t want their money to go to union executives only making maybe a quarter of $1 million a year are totally fine with our our executives stealing from us and making 20+ million dollars a year each. Make it make sense lol,. Again leadership is all over this site. Don’t let them deter you. Smoke and mirrors guys smoke and mirrors.
UAW President Shawn Fain pulled in a gross salary of $229,514 last year, but he’s far from the only executive earning a sizable paycheck at the union. A recent UAW filing with the U.S. Labor Department reveals not only top-level compensation figures but also new details about membership numbers and the union’s overall financial health.
Given the fact that former UAW president Gary Jones pleaded guilty to using union money to pay for personal expenses and was sentenced to 28 months in prison in 2021, it’s no surprise that members are keeping a close eye on executive pay. In Fain’s case, while his gross salary was $229,514, total payments from the union, including official business disbursements, reached $274,407 in 2024.
The next top earner within the UAW was Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock, who earned a salary of $224,861, with total payments amounting to $247,169. Vice Presidents Mike Booth, Rich Boyer, and Chuck Browning all received the same $211,001 in gross salaries, while the head of the union’s Stellantis department, Kevin Gotinsky, had a total salary of $177,942.
I pay enough in taxes, I don't need another portion of my paycheck going to line the pockets of union executives while they hasten the demise of our company.
Not to mention we can negotiate our healthcare and get some of our benefits back. There’s several people on board. Several people I’ve talked to that are not commenting on the site but agree. I think there is a definite movement.
